Objectives: To identify trends on nephrology research that focus on communication and to analyze the use of communication as a theme in research. Methods: A literature search of publications in Portuguese and Spanish from 1997 through 2007 that focused on communication or interaction with clients regarding feelings, emotions, and perceptions, was performed in the LILACS, SciELO, BDENF, and MEDLINE databases. The publications were grouped into three categories: communication, relationship/interaction, and feelings/emotions/perceptions. Results: The majority of the publications were related to the feelings, emotions, and perceptions of the clients. Professional/Client interaction emerged as a facilitating mechanism of the communication. Holistic and individualized care were identified as the most adequate modality of care. Conclusion: Identification and analysis of research on communication allowed the description of its main characteristics, its perspectives, and its potential to improve professional/client interactions during the delivery of care.

PURPOSE: To describe the sensorial perceptions of the nursing team regarding their burn out during nursing care. METHODS: This was a qualitative study using sociopoetic approach from the inter-personal relationships of the research group based on the dynamics of creativity and sensibility. The study was conducted in the beginning of 2008. Participants consisted of 11 nursing professionals from a municipal hospital in Rio de Janeiro. RESULTS: Based on Seligmann-Silvas concept of mental burn out and Araujos concept of corporal sense, the studys findings suggested that the sensory effects of the vision and audition caused emotional burn out of the nursing team. Touch during debridement of wounds led to physical and psychic exhaustion. However, the strongest causes of burn out of the nursing team were the patients social problems related to the cause of their burns. CONCLUSIONS: The nursing team used defensive strategies to reduce psychic burn out and suffering during nursing care. This research allowed us to re-think nursing care through the subjective perceptions of the nursing team.Purpose: To describe the sensorial perceptions of the nursing team regarding their burn out during nursing care. Objective To validate the evaluation questionnaire on adherence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients under hemodialysis. Method We verified the following psychometric properties of the instrument: reliability (stability and internal consistency) and validity (face, content, and construct). Results The intraclass correlation coefficient reached a value of 0.98 for the adherence questions and 0.91 for the perception questions. Regarding the kappa of the 14 questions examined, 12 had a value > 0.8, whereas the Cronbachs alpha had a value of 0.57. Experts ensured the face and content validity of the instrument, giving it an overall content validity index of 0.96. Construct validity, analyzed by Mann-Whitney test, was achieved as all domains showed a significant association with p<0.01. Conclusion We verified, by the presented results, that the instrument has been validated for use in Brazil.

Objective To identify the clinical conditions and health care demand behavior of chronic kidney patients in the therapeutic itinerary for hemodialysis. Methods Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study based on an interview with ten patients at a renal replacement therapy clinic under hemodialysis treatment and analysis resulting from the use of the Collective Subject Discourse technique, by means of the software qualiquantisofty. Results The clinical conditions on the therapeutic itinerary evidenced symptoms of unease and the baseline disease profile identified included hypertensive nephrosclerosis, diabetic nephrosclerosis, undetermined cause and diabetic nephrosclerosis associated with arterial hypertension. The behaviors that negatively affected the health control were the delay to receive care in the health network, the non-acceptance of the disease and the treatment. Conclusion Few patients received early monitoring without any sign of symptoms. Nevertheless, the majority were hospitalized suddenly.
