Creating granular learning object towards reusability of Learning Object in e-learning context

Learning Object (LO) is one of the main research topics in the e-learning community in the recent years, and most researchers pay attention to the issue of Learning Object Reusability. The most obvious motivation is the economic interest of reusing learning material instead of repeatedly authoring it. In this paper we present the process of creating granular learning object for enabling the reusing of LO in e-Learning context. Reusability requires the LO to be in a fine-grain form because raw media elements are often much easier to reuse then aggregate assemblies. In other words, as the LO size decreases (lower granularity), its potential for reuse increases. A prototype of learning objects repository that contain granular LO has been developed to show the process of granularizing LO. Each of existing LO will be extracted into granular element with the metadata and the system generated unique id for each LO based on its identifier (URL of LO) and save automatically the metadata contain in the LO. These metadata will be used for searching and retrieval process of the granule LO.

A Metrics Suite for Measuring Reusability of Learning Objects

Reusability requires the LO to be in a fine-grain form because raw media elements are often much easier to reuse than aggregate assemblies. In other words, as the LO size decreases (lower granularity), its potential for reuse increases. Therefore, when designing learning objects, reusability must be considered as a key consideration. This paper shows how we adapted and applied some of the metrics from the software engineering field for the purpose of measuring reusability of learning objects.

Review of personalized learning approaches and methods in e-learning environment

Personalized E-learning topic has attracted the interest of many research studies in recent years. This paper provide a survey of the previous research works done regarding personalized environment. Two main concepts will be discusses including approaches that have been used, learning styles identification techniques and methods involved as well as its learning styles. The approaches consist of collaborative and automatic while methods for automatic learning style detection involved data-drive and literature-based. Finally, from all the previous study that have been discussed, the author aims to introduce a personalized e-learning system based on the concepts of learning styles and particularly the Felder and Silverman Learning Style Model (FSLSM).

Framework of visual interface for children's digital library

This paper discuss the visual interface framework which represents conceptual design of childrens interface digital library. This framework would eventually be used as a guideline in developing digital library for children. In pursuance of this aim, the objectives of this paper are to discuss various techniques that have potential to overcome issues dealing with design interface and the final presentation of information design, and to make recommendation of framework of user interface design of the childrens digital library.
