In this paper, we present a novel home energy management model with enhanced load categorization and multiple scheduling options. Concepts of partial baseline and reserved interrupting loads are used to enhance the traditional load categorization. The proposed model uses multiple pricing schemes namely Time of Use (ToU) and Real Time Pricing (RTP) day ahead case. The energy cost minimization problem has been solved by multiple optimization techniques namely Knapsack and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Comparative results of multiple pricing schemes have been discussed which prove the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Power generation and supply management is becoming an increasingly difficult task with the increase in population. One of the solutions is intelligent control of power consumption in the households where most of power consumption is due to high load appliances like Electric Water Heater (EWH) in winter and fridge in summer. This paper presents an over view of the EWH use for Demand Side Management (DSM). To reduce the consumption of EWH, the US Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) model has been focused in context of DSM in smart grid. Moreover, use of Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) has been elaborated to implement a direct load control strategy for EWH management.

Residential sector constitutes major portion of electricity market and majority of the worldwide consumers are not able to interact with grid dynamically according to fluctuating conditions. Smart Grid is proposed to overcome the shortcomings of the existing grid with integrated bidirectional communication and control infrastructure including dynamic Demand Side Management (DSM). This paper presents a detailed review of the DSM and its applications for flattening of load curve and reduction of the peak to average ratio. The paper reviews the optimization techniques used in smart homes at individual user level and cooperative DSM for optimal usage of electricity. For optimization purpose, the residential consumers are mostly treated at individual level and work on the cooperative DSM, also known as community base DSM, is in initial stages and has great potential of research. In traditional DSM, consumers actions are not coordinated but in cooperative optimization the DSM is applied for entire community. Comparison between individual DSM and cooperative DSM optimization techniques has also been added.

Appliances scheduling and direct load control are major tools of Demand Side Management (DSM); however, in many scenarios, these tools come to threshold for effective use due to certain limitations. Prosumers are those energy consumers who also produce energy and can share it with grid or other users. Demand-supply gap can be smartly minimized by energy sharing and management with integration of storage system at end users in smart grid environment. In this paper, prosumer based energy sharing and management model with integration of storage system is presented. MATLAB simulations have been performed for validation of the proposed model. Results show that if users are equipped with storage system then demand-supply gap can be reduced remarkably.

Abstract Entrepreneurs, infrastructure providers, service operators and carriers are targeting the service, application and infrastructure unification over an all Internet Protocol (IP) platform while providing access technology convergence. Distinctive business goals and varying service logic in addition to distinctive resource requirements alongside scalability and extensibility over such converged infrastructure has to be addressed. Intra/Inter domain knowledge set over distinctive planes (application, service, control and network/transport) has to be induced, inherited and overridden. A decision-making system supporting dynamicity is required to handle such a platform effectively and efficiently. Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is used for decision-making framework. Ontology is used to model the structural hierarchy and semantics capturing. Ontologys inability to capture uncertainty is complemented by Bayesian mapping. Software Defined Network Controller (SDNC) on the basis of the proposed framework is developed for multimedia call/request/session routing by using embedded hardware. System exhibits greater throughput with lesser call/session/request dropping probability at the expense of a susceptible delay. Moreover system latency with and without SDNC in provisioning and outsourcing modes are compared and evaluated.
