An adaptive learning system provides learning content customized to a students needs and characteristics, such as in terms of knowledge level, preferences, and learning style. Individualization is essential for improved learning experiences. Here we propose such an adaptive learning system based on ontologies that can assemble highly personalized learning content from implied inter-ontology relationships, resulting in a seamless linking to a more enhanced self-directed learning environment. A prototype was developed for a biology content domain used by second-grade students in Korea. The system presented learning content through a visualized hierarchical interface to enhance student understanding.

One of the effective instruction methods for students with learning ability is to check precedent knowledge of students before learning and to supplement it when want of precedent knowledge is found. In this paper, we propose an adaptive tutoring system, which analyzes learning characteristics of students with leaning disability, diagnoses learning problems of them, and then provides proper advice accordingly. The system uses concept map to represent relationships among learning concepts and to diagnose the learning problems of students.

This paper aims to construct a social network among e-learning learners on the basis of the location information of the learner and the instructor obtained using GPS sensors, etc. For this, we suggest a system that supports the construction of a social education network service using the location information of the smart-phone in e-learning. This system provides a mechanism to form a social network service among students who take the same on-line course or have similar interests. Through this system, e-learners can create communities for learning and exchange help among them. The support of a location based social network service in our system would increase interactions among e-learners and improve satisfaction regarding their mobile learning environment.

Many of the major advantages of the object-oriented paradigm such as reusability and extensibility stem from the inheritance mechanism. However, it is difficult to support inheritance in concurrent object-oriented languages. This is owing to the problem called inheritance anomaly, which is a kind of interference between inheritance and synchronization. This paper presents a novel synchronization mechanism which resolves the inheritance anomaly and thus supports effectively inheritance in POOSL. POOSL is a parallel programming model that we have developed for the purpose of facilitating the description of parallel programs. Our approach offers high-level synchronization constructs such as method-synchronization and method-concurrency. Furthermore, it operates an object manager as low-level control in order to avoid the inheritance anomaly.
