4-channel, 10-Gbit/s capacity self-healing WDM ring network with wavelength add/drop multiplexers

With wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) terrestrial links currently being proposed commercially it is reasonable to expect that these systems will evolve to include networking functions. Already, several wavelength add/drop multiplexers (WADM) have been investigated. A novel, nonsynchronous N-channel W-ADM architecture, with full connectivity capability, is investigated.

40G over 10G infrastructure - dispersion management issues

Hans Bissessur; Alain Hugbart; Stephane Ruggeri; Christian Bastide

Transmission at 40G over a 10G infrastructure needs compatible dispersion management. The optimum chromatic dispersion at 40 Gbit/s is investigated, and its adjustment to a 10 Gbit/s infrastructure over SMF or NZDSF fiber types is discussed.

128/spl times/128 fully broadcasting, managed and rack-mounted optical cross-connect

S. Bruno; D. Domin; Stephane Ruggeri; M. Audoin; R. Balcon; M. Benomar

A fully broadcasting 128/spl times/128 cross-connect with an all-optical switching fabric has been designed and a managed, rack-mounted prototype based on commercially available technologies has been developed for testing. System architecture and experimental results are reported, and 512/spl times/512 feasibility is demonstrated.

6 Tb/s unrepeatered transmission of 60 × 100 Gb/s PDM-RZ QPSK channels with 40 GHz Spacing over 437 km

Hans Bissessur; Sophie Etienne; Philippe Bousselet; Stephane Ruggeri; Dominique Annie Mongardien

We present a 60 × 100 Gb/s unrepeatered transmission experiment at 2.5 b/s/Hz spectral efficiency over a record distance of 437 km of ultra-low loss fibre, with a high power booster and third-order Raman pumping. We also assess the penalty of 40 GHz compared to 50 GHz channel spacing.

4×43Gb/s unrepeatered transmission over 525km using PDM-RZ-BPSK with a coherent receiver

Dominique Annie Mongardien; Philippe Bousselet; Hans Bissessur; Stephane Ruggeri; Julien Lestrade

We demonstrate the transmission of 4 channels at 43Gb/s over a record 525km unrepeatered distance using PMD-tolerant and spectrally efficient PDM-RZ-BPSK modulation combined with a coherent receiver, advanced third order Raman and remote amplification technologies and large effective area fibre.

Transmission of 40/spl times/43 Gb/s over 2540 km of SMF with terrestrial 100 km spans using NRZ format

Hans Bissessur; Christine Bresson; J. Hebert; J. Soigne; R. Bouchenot; Christian Bastide; M. Benomar; Alain Hugbart; Stephane Ruggeri

We demonstrate 100 GHz-spaced 40/spl times/43 Gb/s WDM transmission over 2540 km of SMF fibre in a terrestrial configuration, with combined erbium and Raman amplification and a standard NRZ format. All channels perform better than the enhanced FEC limit.
