We investigate the relation between component phase ripple and system penalty by measuring the OSNR penalties with 40 Gb/s NRZ, RZ and CSRZ formats, and discuss the best estimator for the penalty.

We present a 40 × 200 Gb/s unrepeatered transmission experiment of 4 b/s/Hz spectral efficiency over a record distance of 363 km applying co-Raman pumping at the transmitter and a ROPA with third-order Raman pumping at the receiver.

40G over 10G infrastructure - dispersion management issues

Transmission at 40G over a 10G infrastructure needs compatible dispersion management. The optimum chromatic dispersion at 40 Gbit/s is investigated, and its adjustment to a 10 Gbit/s infrastructure over SMF or NZDSF fiber types is discussed.

80 × 200 Gb/s 16-QAM unrepeatered transmission over 321 km with third order Raman amplification

We show 80 × 200 Gb/s transmission over 321 km of low-loss fiber with third order Raman amplification without ROPA. We investigate narrow channel spacing down to 37.5 GHz, targeting a capacity of 21 Tb/s.

Ultra-long 610 km unrepeatered transmission of 100 Gb/s using single fibre configuration

We report a 100 Gb/s unrepeatered transmission over a record distance of 610 km using advanced technology such as PDM-RZ-BPSK modulation with coherent receiver and third-order Raman pumping while using the same single ultra-low loss fibre for both signal and pumps.

15.4 Tb/s C-Band Only Unrepeatered Transmission of Real-Time Processed 200 Gb/s PDM-16 QAM over 355 km

We present a record 77 × 200 Gb/s, C-band only unrepeatered transmission experiment over 355 km, applying a booster at the transmitter side and a ROPA with third-order Raman pumping at the receiver end.

Impact of Noise Transfer in Transparent Networks on Different 43 Gb/s Formats

We experimentally investigate the sensitivity of different 43 Gb/s formats to non-white noise which occurs in a reconfigurable network, and discuss the system design to reduce its penalty.

Transmission of 40/spl times/43 Gb/s over 2540 km of SMF with terrestrial 100 km spans using NRZ format

We demonstrate 100 GHz-spaced 40/spl times/43 Gb/s WDM transmission over 2540 km of SMF fibre in a terrestrial configuration, with combined erbium and Raman amplification and a standard NRZ format. All channels perform better than the enhanced FEC limit.
