Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the different roles and natures of objects in organizational process. Furthermore, the concept of the mediation object is developed to understand how the objects help to structure interactions and collective activities over time.Design/methodology/approach – The paper employs data from a case study (the Pupitre Virtuel) in order to highlight and illustrate the relevance of a process analysis of the roles and natures of objects.Findings – The paper demonstrates that the roles and natures of objects evolve over time through controversies and compromises. On one hand, the evolution of interactions drives the evolution of the roles and natures of objects. On the other, the evolution of objects help the actors to structure their interactions and activities.Originality/value – The paper argues that, rather than a static analysis, human‐object interaction needs to be understood and observed through a process analysis, taking into account the evolution of objects ...

The stability versus novelty relationship remains a conundrum in organization studies, partly owing to conventional views of time and temporality. In this article, we address organization as a stability-novelty intertwinement through the lens of organizational events. The advantage of an events-based approach is that stability and novelty are expressed as parts of the same acts, and not different acts, which tends to be the assumption among mainstream theories of organization change. The events-based approach developed for this article shows how the organization may be defined as a structure of past and anticipated events, defined and redefined on an ongoing basis. From a case study of the development of a competency management tool in a bank, we show how the intertwinement between stability and novelty is articulated through events throughout the project and how every event is both an act of stability and an act of change.

Previous researches in pedagogy and project management have already underlined the positive contribution of serious games on project management courses. However, the empirical outcome of their studies has not been translated yet into functional and technical specifications for “serious games” designers. Our study aims at obtaining a set of technical and functional design guidelines for serious game scenario editors to be used in large classes of project management students. We have conceived a framework to assess the influence of different serious games components over student’s perceived acquired competency. Such frameworks will allow us to develop a software module for reflective learning, which is meant to extend theory of serious games design.

Mobile devices such as smartphones are becoming an important point of access for a large number of services. Accordingly the interaction between the device and the mobile user is changing towards a mutual adaptation. In this paper we present a set of empirical results to support our claim that an interdisciplinary framework is required to build mobile interfaces that increase mobile user perceived added value. The main contribution of this paper lays in its adaptation of technology adoption models towards mobile devices to derive a set of design guidelines and its test design to derive relevant outcomes.

Most organizations encounter business-IT alignment problems because they fail to properly understand how well an enterprise software package aligns with or fits their needs. Strategic consultants make a profit by reducing such external manifestations of the differences between the organization’s needs and the system’s capabilities. Therefore it appears relevant to understand how consultants behave.
