A novel isolated boost converter fed BLDCM drive for electric vehicle

Aritra Ghosh; Subhendu Bikash Santra; Subhalakshmi Jena; Abhijit Dasgupta

This paper presents a novel boost converter fed position sensor-less Brushless DC motor drive system with selective harmonics elimination based loss minimization technique. The proposed drive is highly efficient due to ZCS turnon and ZVS turn off of main switch with lossless snubber in isolated boost converter. Inverter is optimally switched to minimize loss further. The suitability of proposed scheme is well demonstrated through simulation and experimental results using a practical 250 W BLDC machine.

Torque ripple and efficiency optimization of a novel boost converter fed BLDC Motor Drive

Aritra Ghosh; Subhendu Bikash Santra; Manoj Kumar Maharana; Pravat Biswal

This paper presents a novel interleaved boost converter with a Capacitor Inductor Diode(CLD) cell converter and a modified control scheme that reduces the torque ripple and optimizes the efficiency of a Brushless DC(BLDC) motor. The proposed topology presented in the paper has superior voltage gain to conventional boost converters. Furthermore, the topology reduces ripple in the voltage and current along with reduced switching stress. Inverter is optimally switched to mitigate torque ripple and losses. The control strategy proposed in the paper that helps reduce the torque ripples using Selective Harmonic Elimination(SHE) that eliminates the necessary harmonics as per the firing angles generated from the conduction modes of the BLDC motor. The validity of proposed scheme is well demonstrated through simulation results in PSIM 9.1.1 Environment.

Stability analysis and control of hybrid solar and wind system through NI c-RIO

Subhendu Bikash Santra; Sameer Kumar Behera; Chinmay Kumar Panigrahi

This paper presents behaviour of hybrid combination of solar and wind systems under steady state & dynamic state when connected to a remote single-phase load. Small-signal stability is analyzed to improve frequency and voltage variation. A battery arrangement is employed to amalgamate Wind synchronous generator (SG) with an AC-to-DC converter and a PV module. DC-to-DC boost converter is required to boost DC link voltage which can be easily transformed to a constant voltage & frequency AC voltage to feed single phase isolated load. To completely analyze the dynamic equations of the hybrid system, equivalent d-q axis circuit models are individually derived for both the SG and DC-to-AC inverter. Experimental results are obtained from a laboratory prototype based on c-RIO 9082 through LabVIEW of 24 Volt 250 W SG and 500W PV module with a 24 Volt, 100 Ampere-hour battery system. Small-signal stability at different disturbance points are studied using dynamic simulations on PSIM 9.1.1.

Design of a novel non-isolated boost converter for renewable energy system

Subhendu Bikash Santra; Mukesh Kumar Sahu; Debashis Chatterjee

This paper presents a new single switched non-isolated boost converter which can be implemented with modular solar PV panel. The operational principle is analyzed in CCM and DCM modes. The suitability of proposed scheme is well demonstrated through simulation results using PSIM 9.1.1 with a practicality of input voltage of 24 V. Output voltage ranges from 300 V to 350 V which makes it suitable to get single phase AC at 220-230 Volt r.m.s. Simulation is designed based on 75 Watt converter rating.
