Summary The flies were reared at a constant temperature of 28° ± 1°C and 84% ± 2% R.H. The egg is somewhat rounded anteriorly and posteriorly and about 0·28 mm long. The average incubation period is 3 days, 7 hours and 51 minutes and the average larval duration is 6·5 days. The immature stages have been described. The average durations of the first, second and final instars are 51, 42·5 and 64 hours, respectively. The final instar larva abandons the mine and pupates in the soil. The total pupal period is 9·17 days under constant temperature and humidity. The fly emerges from a slit formed at the anterior region of the pupa. The copulation period ranges from 22 to 45 min. The eggs are always laid singly. The larva, after hatching, feeds on the mesophyll tissue of the leaf and with the result of extensive feeding, a linear serpentine mine is formed. The infestation is heavier in shady places. Liriomyza brassicae (Riley) is a polyphagous species.

Summary A complete description of final instar larvae and pupae of three species M. centrosematis de Meijere, M. metallica (Thomson) and M. sojae (Zehntner) are given. Notes on some biological observations and a complete dichotomous key for the identification of the larvae of eleven species are also included.
