Early adverse experiences resulting from maternal separation may lead to neuronal cell death and they can eventually cause memory impairment. In this study, we investigated the effects of postnatal treadmill exercise on the long-term memory capability, spatial learning ability, and depressive state, on the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) synthesis and tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) expression in the dorsal raphe nuclei, and on the apoptosis and cell proliferation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of rat pups following maternal separation. The rat pups in the maternal separation groups were separated from their respective mothers on the postnatal day 14. The rat pups in the maternal separation group showed depressive state with deceased memory capability and learning ability compared to the rat pups in the maternal care group. Postnatal treadmill exercise increased memory capability and learning ability and alleviated depressive state of the rat pups in the maternal separation group. The 5-HT synthesis and TPH expression in the dorsal raphe nuclei and cell proliferation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus were significantly decreased in the maternal-separated rat pups, and postnatal treadmill exercise increased 5-HT synthesis, the TPH expression, and the cell proliferation. In contrast, apoptotic neuronal cell death in the hippocampal dentate gyrus was significantly increased in the maternal-separated rat pups, and postnatal treadmill exercise suppressed the maternal separation-induced apoptosis. The present results demonstrated that postnatal treadmill exercise alleviated maternal separation-induced depression with decrease of memory capability and learning ability, by suppressing apoptotic neuronal cell death and by enhancing cell proliferation.

Current information & communication technology infrastructures are struggling for a wide variety of devices, services, and business and technology evolution. Cloud computing is becoming a promising platform and has developed rapidly. In contrast to traditional enterprise IT solution, it enables enterprises to procure computing resources on demand basis and delegate management of all the resources to the cloud service provider. Healthcare information networks have emerged as one of the major research area in the cloud networks. Healthcare information is communication and information systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research. Healthcare information networks must ensure the reliability and efficiency because it transfers highly personal data. Thus, it guarantees and keeps a certain level of transfer efficiency. In the distributed cloud environments, management costs for the network and computing resources are solved fundamentally through the integrated management system. It can increase the cost savings to solve the traffic explosion problem of core network via a distributed micro datacenters (DCs). However, traditional flooding methods may cause a lot of traffic because it had to send data to all the neighbor DCs. Restricted Path Flooding algorithms have been proposed for this purpose. In large networks, there is still the disadvantage that may occur traffic. In this paper, we develope lightweight path flooding algorithm to improve existing flooding algorithm using hop count restriction. This paper also investigates the problem of partial information sharing.

The study on the application of virtual reality in adapted physical education

Sunyoung Kang; Seungae Kang

With the interest in ICT technology and the efforts of technology development, future ICT technologies such as virtual reality (VR) technology are rapidly developing. Virtual reality technology enables to acquire of specific technologies in a virtual space similar to reality, and can be repeated as many times as necessary. So it is effective to apply it to the disabled as exercise contents for sports experience and rehabilitation. Effective VR sports for the disabled should be applied differently according to the type and severity of disability rather than applying the latest technology unconditionally. And If VR technology is combined with artificial intelligence (AI) in the future, new changes will be made in the field of physical education for the disabled as well as non-disabled sports, furthermore it will help to improve the sports skill of the elite athletes with disabilities.

Physical Activity Intervention Platform for the Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment

Sunyoung Kang; Seungae Kang

The purpose of this study is to propose a physical activity platform as an intervention method to induce the increase of physical activities of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, a pre-dementia stage leading to actual dementia which emerged as social problem amid the increase in the elderly population. Physical activity plays a role in improving cognitive function and also serves an important role in mitigating and preventing the decrease in cognitive dysfunction arising from mild cognitive impairment and aging, and it has been found that improvement in cognitive function is observed more frequently in older elderly than in relatively young elderly. Vigorous efforts need to be made for management of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment based on formation of efficient platform structure which helps increase physical activity, which is the main factor preventing the progression to dementia. The data on physical activity and health, collected from the sensors detecting the amount of exercise, mobile devices and wearable device outfitted with exercise sensors, are periodically updated through the platform to provide information to the elderly and their families in an open and bi-directional way. Moreover, the two-way information which is provided based on feedback process can help increase the physical activity, enabling prevention of decline in cognitive functions and promoting maintenance of cognitive functions.

Smart Care to Improve Health Care for the Elderly

Sunyoung Kang; Seungae Kang

Smart care technology which has made strides is recognized vital in the aging society. This study was intended to examine trends and outlook of smart care by type of elderly and situation to spur improvement in health management for the elderly. Smart cares by type of elderly and situation were elderly-friendly smart home, smart care for management of chronic diseases in the elderly, and smart care for the elderly living alone. Smart care is needed to be implemented actively not only to reduce medical costs and improve the quality of medical services but also to ensure safety and quality of life for the elderly. However, multi-faceted efforts need to be made to help overcome the difficulties arising from degraded cognitive function of the elderly, considering the basic orientation of smart care such as mobile, smart, cloud computing, IoT, etc. For that, it would be necessary to develop elderly-friendly devices suited for characteristics of the elderly group and to actively deploy professional manpower, in parallel with active support from related organizations, who can provide instant support to the elderly encountering difficulty with the use, so as to stimulate the smart care service in the period ahead. Furthermore, as health information and privacy information generated in connection with individuals are sensitive data, it would be the most important to ensure that strict security is maintained for safe data transmission and that only necessary part of information is shared selectively.
