Thermochemical pyrolysis of biomass using solar energy for efficient biofuel production: a review

ABSTRACT The increasing energy demand of a rapidly growing population has rekindled the interest of humankind in the use of biomass as a source of energy. The main factors behind this resurgent interest in biofuels are the fast-depleting fossil fuel reservoirs and concerns regarding climate change. The proper choice of technology for conversion of biomass into clean-burning fuel is essential for sustained use of biomass as a source of energy. Various thermo-chemical conversion processes such as combustion, hydrogenation, liquefaction, gasification and pyrolysis have been utilized to extract various energy products from biomass. Even though pyrolysis, of all the thermo-chemical processes, is still in a preliminary stage of development, it has received special attention in our present energy scenario as it can convert biomass into various liquid, solid and gaseous products. The use of solar energy provides a renewable source for pyrolysis, which gives it an edge over use of thermal energy. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the various pyrolysis techniques and their comparative advantages and disadvantages in terms of their environmental impacts. The advantages of using solar thermal power over other pyrolysis methods are also covered in detail.

In this paper, the emphasis has been the application of Internet of the things (IoT) system on an urban (Dehradun) prospective, that is a broader category which has been subdivided into specific application domain. Urban IoT’s are planned to support modern smart cities. The prime objective behind IoT-based smart cities is to harness the advanced communication technologies to support the value-added services of city administration for the citizen. This paper provides a proposed in-depth suitable technologies, protocol, and network architecture for Dehradun city.

Comparative Analysis of Floating Aerogenerators

This paper presents and compares several concepts of higher altitude wind energy exploitation. This new generation of systems employs tethered wings, aircrafts, multi-copters, balloons in order to harness the higher atmospheric winds. The comparison in this paper covers generators placed in ground as well as in air. From available concepts from literature, the most promising concepts were reproduced on the basis of moving mass (wings and tether), design, operational issues, techno- economic comparison. Key design and operational issues in developing and operating these systems are highlighted. A comparative analysis of floating type aerogenerators has been shown in this paper.
