Natural development of the resources in design and testing of the computer systems and their components

Julia Drozd; Alexander V. Drozd; Svetlana Antoshchuk; Vyacheslav Kharchenko

This work addresses to problems in design and testing of the computer systems and their components, which are considered in content of natural development of the resources for solving these challenges. The resources are examined as target and natural. The target resources contain the models, methods and means. The natural resources are considered like their particularities. Development of the resources is examined taking into account particularities of Universe which demonstrates itself as parallel, approximate and existing in on-line modes. Development of the models on example of arithmetic operations improvement from complete up to truncated ones is considered. The natural way of the methods development is shown examining the process of expansion of the results preparation method which is parallel and approximate.

Alexander V. Drozd; Vyacheslav Kharchenko; Svetlana Antoshchuk; Julia Drozd; M. V. Lobachev; J. Sulima

Influence of safety-critical Instrumentation and Control systems (I&CS) particularities on checkability of their digital components are examined. The natural resources which can be used for increasing checkability of the digital components are analyzed. Natural resources of digital components developed as multi-version system with strongly connected versions are considered. The checkability-oriented designing of simultaneous fault tolerant digital components is offered.

Real-Time Hand Tracking and Gesture Recognition Using Semantic-Probabilistic Network

Mykyta Kovalenko; Svetlana Antoshchuk; Juergen Sieck

In this paper we propose a system for real-time hand gesture recognition for use as a human-computer interface. Firstly, hand detection is performed using a Viola-Jones algorithm. We use the Continuously Adaptive Mean Shift Algorithm (CAM Shift) to track the position of each detected hand in each video frame. The hand contour is then extracted using a Border Following algorithm, which is preceded by skin-colour thresholding, performed in HSV colour space. Finally, a semantic-probabilistic network is introduced, which uses an ontological gesture model and Bayesian network for gesture recognition. We then demonstrate the effectiveness of our technique on a training data set, as well as on a real-life video sequence.

Parity prediction method for on-line testing of a Barrel-shifter

Alexander V. Drozd; Svetlana Antoshchuk; Andrzej Rucinski; A. Martinuk

This paper addresses the problem of on-line testing of floating-point computing circuits. The problem is connected with the use of the truncated operations in the part of mantissas processing. The arithmetic shift performed on a Barrel-shifter is the most often used truncated operation. Known approaches to on-line testing of the Barrel-shifter are based on duplication of the truncated operation or on its restoring to a long shift. This makes of the error detection scheme more complex. Known residue checking method, which implements a prior computation of the check results for all causes of a shift reduces the check hardware overhead from square dependence on an operand size to a linear one. However this method requires to perform a series of complex operations for generating and processing of the check codes by modulo. We propose the parity prediction method that significantly simplifies the error detection scheme of a Barrel-shifter by using simple check operations.

The Hierarchical Objects Analysis on Images of Cutting Tool Wear Zones

Svetlana Antoshchuk; Alexandr Derevianchenko; Elena Tkachenko

The technique of application of the hierarchical approach to allocation and the analysis of contours in space hyperbolic wavelet transformations is developed at processing images of cutting tools. The offered technique allows to spend the analysis of attributes of deterioration of cutting tools with a different level of detailed elaboration and to create hierarchical methods of processing and recognition of images.

Green FPGA design represented in the directions of energy efficiency and safety which are tightly connected in the areas of critical application is considered. The array structures that are traditionally used in digital components of safety-related systems, reduce a checkability of circuits, creating a problem of the hidden faults which can be accumulated in a normal mode and reduce the fault tolerance of the circuit and safety of system in the emergency mode. Soft and cardinal ways of array structure reduction are offered. The soft way consists in development of the truncated arithmetical operations implementing into reduced array structures. The cardinal way consists in paralleling of calculations in serial codes with the use of bitwise pipelines. The comparative analysis in complexity, throughput and energy consumption of the iterative array and bitwise pipeline multiplier is executed experimentally with use of Altera Quartus II. Methods of on-line testing in checking of mantissas by inequalities are developed for the truncated operations. A method of increase in safety of FPGA circuits in opposition to accumulation of the hidden faults and a method of monitoring in integrity of FPGA project are suggested on the basis the program code diversity use.

The purpose of the study was the development of a parametric model for prediction and actual evaluation of the quality level of work of educational institution. We created the structure of the processes of educational institution, which includes 7 levels of processes in the sequence of their execution. To determine parameters of influence of some processes on others, the links between each process and other processes were analyzed. With the help of expert assessment, we defined values of parameters of influence on each process. We performed selection of experts, for whom a statistical analysis of the results of expert evaluations demonstrated consistency in judgments at the medium and high level – 91xa0%, the significance of these assessments reached 78 % by the criterion of Pearson. The defined values of parameters helped to create the model of the process of educational institution. This model allows calculating consistently by the levels of processes the quality of work of each process by the determined function that takes as its basis the level of quality of initial resources and uses the defined parameters and the structure of processes for the calculation. The calculated quality is predictable, demonstrating either increase or decrease in the quality level of each process and the entire educational institution in future. The actual assessment of quality of each process of educational institution is recommended to perform based on verbal questionnaires, the basis of which is the developed table of ten degrees of estimation of quality level. The scale of degrees of assessment was expanded in comparison with the recommendations of the ISO 9004 standard to align actual evaluations with the process of prediction of quality level and consequent comparison of their results. As a result of the study, we created a parametrical model which enables us to predict the quality of work of educational institution based on rational allocation of initial resources. Based on the model, it is possible to realistically evaluate the quality of work of all processes of educational institution for further improvement in their work and adjustment of the model for prediction.
