Densities (ρ) of antitubercular drug isoniazid solutions in water, aqueous-ethanol (20–80 vol % EtOH) and in pure ethanol at 298.15 K with different molar concentrations (0.01–0.16 mol dm−3) were measured. Experimental density data were used to calculate apparent molar volumes (φv) of isoniazid in different media. The φv data were fitted to Massons relation and partial molar volumes (φv0) of drug for infinitely dilute solution were determined for each solution. Experimental and derived properties were interpreted in terms of drug-solvent molecular interactions and structural fittings in studied systems.

Article history: Received on: 27/03/2015 Revised on: 12/04/2015 Accepted on: 03/05/2015 Available online: 27/05/2015 In view of pharmaceutical applications, the density (ρ) and refractive index (nD) of antiemetic metoclopramide hydrochloride monohydrate (MHM) drug in aqueous, aqueous-DMSO and DMSO solutions were measured at 303.15 K in the wide range of concentration of drug. Apparent molar volumes (φv) were calculated from density data and fitted to the Masson relation to determine partial molar volume (φ °v) of drug. Overall, strong drugsolvent interactions with significant structural changes in pure and mixed solvents have been confirmed.

The 4-amino-5-chloro-N-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2 methoxybenzamide hydrochloride monohydrate exhibits antiemetic and parasympathomimetic activity. Density (ρ) and refractive index (nD) measurements were carried out as a function of drug concentration (c=0.01-0.11 mol•L-1 ) in aqueous NaCl/LiCl (c=0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 mol•L-1 ) solutions at 30 °C. Linear relation of concentration dependence of density and refractive index were studied. Molar refractivity (RM) of solution was calculated from density and refractive index data and polarizability (α) was calculated from molar refractivity data. Stronger polarizability effects have been observed K with increase in drug concentration.

Density (ρ), viscosity (η) and refractive index (nD) of an antiemetic drug metoclopramide (4-amino-5-chloro-N-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2-methoxybenzamide hydrochloride) solutions containing amino acids (glycine, D-alanine, L-cystine and L-histidine) were measured in the concentration range 0.01–0.17 mol/dm3 at 303.15 K. The apparent molar volume (φv) of this drug in aqueous amino acid solutions was calculated from the density data and fitted to the Massons relation, and the partial molar volume φv0 of the drug was determined graphically. The partial molar volumes of transfer (Δtrφv0) of drug at infinite dilution from pure water to aqueous amino acid solutions were calculated and interpreted in terms of different interactions between the drug and amino acids.

Abstract Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is used for the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure. This article addresses the accurate measurements of densities and refractive indices of solutions containing captopril in pure solvents such as water, methanol, ethanol and 1-propanol and aqueous mixtures of methanol, ethanol and propan-1-ol of 30%, 50% and 70% by volume in a wide range of drug concentration at 26 °C. This article also includes the evaluation of apparent molar volume, partial molar volume at infinite dilution and transfer volumes. The concentration dependence of the refractive indices studied and respective fitting parameters have been reported. Different properties are interpreted in terms of intermolecular interactions, effect of drug on structure of solvent/solvent mixture and overall structural fittings in solutions.

The molar refractivity and polarizability of mixtures of L-histidine (0.01–0.11 mol L–1)–metformin hydrochloride (0.03, 0.05, 0.07 mol L–1)–water were calculated from density and refractive index data at 30°C. Enhancement in the polarizability has been observed with increase in L-histidine concentration as well as metformin hydrochloride content in the solution. The molar refractivity and polarizability of solutions increased appreciably after 0.09 mol L–1 L-histidine in each aqueous solution.
