Recent polarized proton beam experiments in the IUCF Cooler Ring found an evidence for a second-order snake depolarizing resonance, when the vertical betatron tune was inadvertently set near a quarter-integer. We have also studied the possibility of spin-flipping the beam polarization in the presence of a full Siberian snake using an RF solenoid. By varying the rf solenoids ramp time and frequency range, we reached a spin-flip efficiency of about 97%.

Spin correlation coefficients in p⃗p⃗→pnπ+ from 325 to 400 MeV

The spin correlation coefficient combinations S≡Axx+Ayy, D≡Axx−Ayy and the analyzing powers Ay(θ) were measured for pp→pnπ+ at beam energies of 325, 350, 375 and 400 MeV. A polarized internal atomic hydrogen target and a stored, polarized proton beam were used. These polarization observables are sensitive to contributions of higher partial waves. A comparison with recent theoretical calculations is provided.

A planned experiment to measure the nuclear polarization of H2 molecules formed by recombination of polarized H atoms is described. Polarization will be measured with a longitudinally polarized 200 MeV proton beam and a longitudinally polarized storage cell gas target at the IUCF cooler ring.
