Abstract By reaction with 1,1,2,3,3,3-hexafluoropropyldiethylamine (PPDA), various monoesters of ethylene glycol gave a mixture of corresponding monofluorides and 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropionate esters. The antimicrobial properties of these fluorine compounds for a spent coolant were examined.

A number of N,N′-diacylalkyldiamines were prepared from the reaction of acid chlorides with 1,8-diaminooctane and 1,12-diaminododecane and screened for anti-rust properties and antimicrobial activity in spent coolants of water-based cutting fluids. Aqueous solutions of N,N′-dihexanoyl-1,8-diaminooctane and N,N′-isobutyroyl-1,12-diaminododecane showed good anti-rust properties for water-based cutting fluids. Aqueous emulsions of N,N′-dibutyroyl-, dipentanoyl-, dihexanoyl- and dioctanoyl-1,12-diaminododecane showed good lubricities and antimicrobial activity for water-based cutting fluids.

Abstract Pd(PPh3)4 catalyzed reaction of linalyl acetate with diethylamine gave N, N-diethylgeranylamine as a main product (E:Z = 90:10). The reaction of linalyl acetate with various amines gave their corresponding products. For example, the reaction of aniline with linalyl acetate gave N-geranylaniline in 100% stereoselectivity. The reaction of linalyl methylcarbonate with diethylamine using a Pd(0) catalyst similarly gave N, N-diethylgeranylamine (E:Z = 92:8).

A variety of alkoxyaromatic carboxylic acids and acyloxyaromatic carboxylic acids were prepared from various hydroxyaromatic carboxylic acids, and screened for anti-rust properties, lubrication properties and antimicrobial activity in spent coolants of water-soluble cutting fluids. The triethanolamine salt of alkoxydiphenyl carboxylic acids showed good anti-rust activity and lubrication properties. The triethanolamine salts ofp-alkoxyphenyl propionic acid showed good antimicrobial activity together with good anti-rust properties and lubrication properties.
