Optimization Method for Reconfiguration of High Speed Digital Networks under Transit Trunk Failure Conditions

This paper proposes a method to obtain an approximate optimal reconfiguration of high speed digital networks under transit trunk failure conditions. This method consists of formulation as a nonlinear binary programming problem and an efficient approximate algorithm. The preciseness of the proposed algorithm, compared with an exact algorithm, is shown to be acceptable. Numerical experiments show that the computer program based on the algorithm is applicable to actual size private digital networks in Japan. Its application to an actual network verifies that it is useful to reduce manpower to generate configuration table contents to guarantee secure communication between subscriber circuits that require fast recovery action with high priority under failure conditions. This program is implemented as one of the function of the networks management system previously reported.
