INTERNET-MARKs: Clear, Secure, and Portable Visual Marks for the Cyber Worlds

Hiroshi Yoshiura; Seiichi Susaki; Yasuhiko Nagai; Tsukasa Saitoh; Hisashi Toyoshima; Ryoichi Sasaki; Satoru Tezuka

Visual marks play critical roles in the physical world, but their use in the cyber world is limited because there they are easy to forge, tamper with and copy onto unauthorized data. This paper therefore describes a new type of visual marks that are secure because digital signatures are embedded in them and that can be used with a wide variety of cyber-world systems. It also shows the effectiveness of these marks by describing their application to WWW site authentication.

Verification Of An Optimal Scope-Patterns Decision Method for OSI Management Operation

Yasuhiko Nagai; Kiminori Sugauchi; Michio Suzuki

In this presentation an optimal scope-pattems decision method for efficient OS1 management operation is proposed. The scope-pattems are CMIS operational range-specifications based on the containment relationship between managed objects. The motivation for this study is to improve human interfaces for network management systems by providing a translating function for user-specified operational ranges based on various kinds of relationships into CMIS scope-pattems. The goal of this method is to define optimal scope-patteims for minimizing invoked operations by solving a combinatorial optimization problem. human interface are shown. Also, processing time validity and effectiveness on human-machine interaction using a prototype 645 0-7803-181 1-0/94

Also, the CMIS includes the scope and the filter service parameters for efficient management operation with respect to multiple managed objects. The scope parameter indicates a subtree based on the containment relationship between managed objects, rooted at the base managed object which is to be searched. The search pattems that may be performed are the base object alone, the Nth level subordinates of the base object, the base object and all of its subordinates down to and including the Nth level, and the base object and all of its subordinates. The filter parameter specifies the set of attribute value assertions that define the filter test that is applied to the scoped managed objects. However, network operators are forced to decide the scope parameters by following the above mental information processing, in order to use OS1 management operations efficiently, especially when treating many managed objects. 0 mapping displayed objects to managed objects 0 translating operator-specified operational ranges based on various kinds of relationships (geography, 0 selecting effective scope-pattems for machine processings connection, service, etc.) into CMIS scope-pattems based on the containment relationship Therefore, it is difficult to use present human interfaces with OS1 management operations efficiently. In order to resolve the above issues, a method to achieve user-friendly human interfaces for OS1 management operations is proposed.
