The Digital Signage Systems using some computer devices are widely used for displaying some dynamic information, unlike wall ads that are unchanged for a certain period. At the replacement time of our universitys digital signage system, we need to implement cost effective digital signage system. Therefore, we developed a brand-new style of the digital signage display device using low-cost information device and open intensive management system. In this demonstration, we introduce the total signage system, that include 1) the signage display device, and 2) the digital signage device / content management system.

In Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, by the part of the information strategy, we promote to abolish the conventional computer room, and make the user to bring the users own computer (BYOD: Bring Your Own Device). The trend of this BYOD is expanding progressively in other universities in Japan. The type of users device is wide variety, its usability, is too. In this situation, it increases the cost of teacher due to the difference of the operation. To reduce this cost, we propose our brand new designed computer environment, TUAT Virtual Computer Classroom (TUAT-VCCr). TUAT-VCCr is based on virtual desktop technology, and each user can use the TUAT-VCCr by accessing to the remote desktop, which can be accessed from everywhere in our campus. TUAT-VCCr can be used through an HTML5-compliant web browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox), instead of the dedicated client in a conventional VDI or remote desktop environment. This enables the use from a variety of access device that are independent of the device type of the user (e.g. Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chrome). As a result of this, convenience for the user is significantly improved. We present the detail of the design and structure of TUAT-VCCr architecture. We also provide a TUAT-VCCr reservation system, which can adopt the class schedule in order to manage the number of the virtual desktops for class and self-study use efficiently. We also present the detail of this reservation system.

This paper describes construction of a high-definition videoconference system which is connected 18 National Universities. This system is supported two screens with high-definition, to provide videos and sounds in high quality. We can operate a videoconference device, high definition camera, audio and video equipment (an audio amplifier and data projectors, etc.) from a wireless touch panel. A wireless touch panel is connected to an administration system of reservation through a network. This system can reduce a burden of a user, because the user can use it with simple operation for reservation from Web, and a system starts automatically in reservation time and sets it. This system is a beginning in Japan, as for the remote lecture using a high-definition picture connected Japanese universities from the north to the south.

In recent years, there are many problems of network security such data breaches and unauthorized access due to targeted attacks on vulnerabilities. The campus network in a university is under various threats as well as corporate networks. In addition, many universities including the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) have taken Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), and the number and types of devices connected to our campus network are increasing. Since a campus network is used for wide range of education and research, there are many more types of connected devices than corporate network. Until now, we tried to reduce the security risk for our campus network by using the quarantine / authentication system, but it is not a sufficient system because some users bypass the quarantine using the systems loophole. Therefore, we designed a campus network security system based on automatic shutdown with network monitoring for brand-new security measures of our campus network. In our system, network traffic is monitored on the campus network side (e.g. core switch, edge switch), and a device considered as high security risk is automatically isolated from the campus network on the edge switch. A dedicated portal is also provided for presenting the reason for isolating to the user. This can make it possible to effectively implement high levels of security measures while reducing the management cost for an operation and a user support as much as possible. In this presentation, we introduce details of the design and actual architecture of our system.

In April of 2016, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) transitioned from an educational computer system to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). In response, a brand-new computer system for the classroom, called TUAT Virtual Computer Classroom (TUAT-VCCR), replaced the old computer rooms and terminals. TUAT-VCCR is based in virtual desktop technology and users can access the tools with any HTML5-compliant web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox), removing the differences for various operating systems (e.g. Windows, macOS). In this article, we would like to share our efforts and operational reports for our first year. The project itself included redesigning lecture halls, creation of user guides and other ways to support users to efficiently use new system. We would also like to share the first year adoption experience and the reality of BYOD in the university of science and technology. In this article, we provide valuable information to other organizations planning a similar BYOD initiative.

In this paper, we describe a new design of an automated remote lecture system in Japanese national 18 universities. Our current high-definition automated remote lecture system that was constructed in 2009 has many life-expired hardware. Thus we design a new remote lecture system for replace current system. In our design, new system controls room equipment automatically by reservation, connects rooms and mobile environment seamlessly. The designed system is expected to build actually with the goal of full-scale operations in 2016.

This special issue is planned and edited by the Special Interest Group on Internet and Operation Technology (SIG-IOT) as a central role. Computer systems are becoming more complicated, because of virtualization of hardware and computer network. Various technology is developed and used every day in the field one of computer science. The virtualization technology is one of those, too. In old days, the virtualization technology was only used to make memory space look bigger than the real thing. Now, various things including computer network are virtualized as well as hardware. Cloud computing service using such kind of virtualization technology has been started, and the system becomes complicated much more. Therefore advanced operational techniques also become increasingly necessary. In addition, since the system becomes complicated, it also becomes struggling to consider security. On the other hand, the Internet comes to be used widely in a social infrastructure, and security technology becomes more important than ever. In this special issue, we have to attract excellent papers related to research and development of new services in the age of virtualization, it was aimed to contribute to the development of operational techniques. Editing Committee consisted of 16 people received 15 papers and reviewed them thoroughly and strictly. This special issue has common themes in the 6th Internet and Operation Technology Symposium (IOTS2013) held in December 2013. So we involved members of the program committee of IOTS2013 to reinforce the continuity of theme. In the same way of former special issues arranged by SIG-IOT, we have made a best effort to give precedence to “Dos and Don’ts” (established by the editorial committee of IPSJ Journal) and asked the reviewers to make comments instructive for authors. Consequently, we selected 7 papers to be included in this special issue. As a result, we were able to publish excellent papers that mainly discussed the virtualization technology, security of the network and computer system. I appreciate IPSJ that gave me a plan of chance in this special issue. This special issue could be edited by support of many people. Special thanks to authors, reviewers, editorial board and Society office staff. I hope that this special issue is to contribute to evolution of the future of technology.

In this paper, we describe our developed a new presence display system running on IP-phone. And we also describe the knowledge provided by construction and use of the before system. We thought that we run new presence display system on touch panel display of IP-phone, then we designed and constructed the new system. Our new system is operating since 2010. Peoples presence status can be viewed through the web browser such as running on iPad. Presence status on web browser is changed immediately when you change it on an IP-phone. These are used Ajax technology. The presence display is easily customizable in every section. We added the indication of the call state of the telephone to a presence display. Thus you can go to meet a person by the timing when a call was over.

We developed new HD remote lecture systems, which connected many universities in Japan. People can use this system easily, because people should only reserve the system through the web, then a system starts in eservetion time and sets the equipment automatically. Thus, this system can reduce a burden of a user. This system is a beginning in Japan, as for the remote lecture using a high-definition picture connected Japanese universities from the north to the south. We are expanding the system and total connection nodes number is over 36. We connect rooms nearby by this system and create some virtual big room. It is useful to connect not only the remote rooms but also neighborhood rooms together.
