Studies on the relation between health and work tend to highlight the negative and pathological aspects, as if work produces only sickness and alienation. On the contrary, our proposal is to stress how work can also produce health. Based on Canguillems concept of health, and from the contributions of the so-called work clinics, we intend to analyze the purpose of work as a promoter of health. Canguilhem affirms that health is not adaptive, as such it does not involve adapting well to the world, but to the creation of tenets of life. For their part, the work clinics provide tools to approximate us to the know-how-to-do produced by workers in their daily work, namely not only how workers adapt to work, but how they create and recreate it permanently Thus, we can think work as a promoter of health where there is room for collective and personal creation, as well as recognition of workers in their activity.

The paper discusses some methods that emphasize collective and shared analysis of the relationship established at and with work, in a synergetic relationship with the experience of the protagonists at work. They can be characterized as research-intervention methods that make important contributions to the field of Occupational Health, some of which are developed within the scope of the Psychology of Work. Methods that use Karl Marxs worker poll as their benchmark, highlighting contributions from some of the Work Clinics - taking the existence of theoretical and methodological affinities and differences into consideration - such as the Italian Worker Model of the quest for health, Ergonomics in the Workplace and the Psychodynamics of Work. Subsequently, the Three-Pole Dynamic Device put forward by Ergology is discussed, as well as one of its configurations being developed in Brazil, namely the Extended Research Community.

This article searches to understand, based on a genealogical approach, the possibilities for the emergence of the statements that demarcate the field of mental health and is (dis)articulation with workers’ health policies. As a way to point out the articulations and disarticulations between these policies and its programmatic instruments, we will present a brief analytical description of the national conferences that dealt with these themes. As a comprehensive hypothesis for the obstacles for the implementation of this articulation, we will present the political and epistemological challenges of the knowledge-truth legitimating ways in the fields of mental health and workers’ health.
