Sustainable Product Lifecycle Management and Territoriality: New Structure for PLM

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a business strategy, which aims to streamline the flow of information about products and related processes throughout the whole product’s Lifecycle such that the right information in the right context at the right time can be made available. Recently some studies have been presented on general capabilities of PLM to improve sustainability paradigm, but the subject is still not solved completely. In this paper, first a critical review on the recent advances of Sustainable PLM is presented then a new structure for PLM is proposed based on combination of geographical information systems (GIS) and Lifecycle assessment (LCA), to reach an improvement on sustainable development in territorial scale for achieving a more sustainable paradigm in global scale.

A Product Model to Capture and Reuse Ecodesign Knowledge

Ecodesign is the improvement of the environmental performance of products or services throughout their whole lifecycle. Because there is less design freedom in the late stages of the design process, it is assumed that if the environmental constraint is introduced early, the designers would develop a product that would have a better environmental performance. Thus, case-based reasoning is proposed as a strategy to incorporate ecodesign early in the design process.

Definition of Experience Feedback Sheet for Eco-design.

In this paper, we propose a Knowledge to use experience feedback techniques in order to keep track of ecodesign decisions. The integration of eco-design in industries is becoming more and more considered as a necessary condition of Sustainable development. Even sustainable rules become to be defined as norms, but the application of these rules in design still difficult. Firstly, eco-design criteria are extracted from documents in order to help the definition of experience feedback sheets main points. CommonKADS generic models are also used in order to define adequate sheets to reasoning and task types linked to eco-design phases.
