This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the increase in the number of degree courses in nursing and the nursing job market. It is a descriptive exploratory study with a quantitative approach, which used data on Undergraduate Nursing courses, supply of nurses, connection with health facilities, and formal jobs in nursing in the state of Minas Gerais. The evolution of Undergraduate Nursing courses reveals a supply and demand decline in recent years. Such context is determined by the nurses labor market being influenced by the contradiction of a professional quantitative surplus, particularly in the states less developed areas, as opposed to a low percentage of nurses to care for the populations health. These characteristics of the nursing labor market reproduce inequalities furthermore aspects such as the regulation of nursing education and the creation of new jobs need to be discussed further. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the increase in the number of degree courses in nursing and the nursing job market. Resumen This study aimed to identify aspects that challenge nursing education in a context of growth in participation in higher education. The research was conducted in 17 Bachelor of Nursing courses in the state of Minas Gerais with focus groups formed by professors and students. The results indicate changes in the profile of nursing students being admitted to the universities. In this context of growth nursing schools have contributed to the transformation of the models of care and to the incorporation of new concepts on health system. However there are problems to articulate the changes required in the nursing degree courses with the new profile of students that decide on a nursing course. It is necessary that the schools review their teaching project and the organization of the curriculum that should focus on care qualification and the transformation of the health care system.Resumen This study aimed to identify aspects that challenge nursing education in a context of growth in participation in higher education. The repeated painful experiences in newborns may have short- and long-time effects, especially in premature infants. The use of sweetened solutions during painful procedures has been recommended as a measure of pain relief. This study aims to evaluate the evidence of the effect of oral sucrose or glucose for acute pain relief in premature infants. An integrative review was conducted in the MEDLINE and LILACS databases. Eight articles were selected from 2005 to 2010. The analyzis of these articles revealed the analgesic effect of glucose and sucrose in acute procedures. No significant side effects were found in infants who received glucose/sucrose. We emphasize the importance of the use of the pain assessment scale most closely related to the predominant population in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a scale easy to be used and handled by health professionals.

Objective: To analyze the nursing work in the care of children with chronic conditions in Primary Health care. Methods: A qualitative study was developed through interviews with 23 nursing professionals from 16 Basic Health Units in the city of Belo Horizonte. Data were analyzed from the critical perspective seeking to identify common themes in the empirical material. Results: Showed up the contradictions and challenges of a practice that began for the group of children with chronic conditions. Nursing work takes a strategic and transversal place in the care of these children, which is not limited to a specific action, but that merges caring dimension of health work. Conclusion: There is a need to advance the care organization offering more coherent actions to the needs of children with chronic conditions in order to allow greater expression of knowledge and own nursing doings.
