Two cases of hypothyroidism with computed tomographic evidence of enlargement of the pituitary gland are reported: in both the enlargement disappeared after treatment. These findings are in agreement with the previously reported observation that an increase of TSH production in primary hypothyroidism may lead to pituitary hyperplasia.

The computed tomographic findings in seven boys and two girls with infarction of the internal capsule are reported. Ages at the time of examination ranged from 8 months to 14 years. The etiology was head injury (concussion) in six and unknown in three. Cerebral angiography carried out in four cases showed narrowing of main arteries in two patients.

A 2-year-old girl developed encephalitis following influenza A virus infection. Brain computed tomography (CT) showed symmetrical hypodense areas in the putamina. Contrast enhancement was noted surrounding the hypodense areas 2 days after the onset of encephalitis. These localized lesions demonstrated on CT have not been reported in the literature of postinfluenzal encephalitis.

The electroencephalographic (EEG) and cranial computed tomographic (CCT) findings of 41 children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy were analyzed. There was a positive correlation between EEG abnormalitie

Abstract A case of a 5-yr-old girl with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADE) following influenza A virus infection improved after corticosteroid treatment. CT showed reversible hypodense areas in the midbrain, basal ganglia and cerebral white matter. Contrast enhancement was noted in the basal ganglia and had not been reported in the literature of ADE.

An 11-yr-old girl with Huntingtons chorea since the age of 4 had mental deterioration, chorea, rigidity, generalized convulsions and cerebellar ataxia. Computerized tomography (CT) showed atrophy of the cerebellum and brain stem in addition to atrophy of the caudate nucleus and cerebral cortex.

Abstract A case of lipoma of the corpus callosum with developmental delay is reported. No other symptoms of the intracranial mass were noticed. Electroencephalography and plain skull radiography were normal. CT revealed a very low density area with a Hounsfield number of between −40 and −60 in the corpus callosum consistent with fat. The literature was reviewed. Among the collected 87 cases, epileptic seizures are reported in 49, developmental delay and/or mental retardation in 18, and no symptoms in 17.

Abstract We report herein the various measurements on the CT of 110 normal Japanese children among 10,000 patients examined at Kyoto University Hospital from 1976 to 1979. The usefulness of our newly calculated basal cistern index was proved, as standard deviation was small and could be readily identified.

We report here a patient with tuberous sclerosis who, over a 15-month period, had markedly increasing brain calcification on CT (computed tomography). When first seen, the 2-month-old boy had a white spot on the right thigh. His mother, maternal uncles, grandfather and great-grandfather had not only white spot but also sebaceous adenoma. Infantile spasms were noted 2 days after birth. His first brain CT at 3 months of age showed a slightly higher than normal density area in the right occipital lobe. Subsequent CT scans at 6 and 18 months of age revealed progressively increasing density in this area (CT number above 60).

Two cases of acute hemiplegia with the occlusion of the posterior cerebral artery were reported in children. Both patients were low-birth-weight infants with a history of febrile convulsions. Cerebral edema due to prolonged seizures was considered to be an etiologic factor of the occlusion of posterior cerebral artery. When the seizure is focal or the patient has perinatal difficulty, febrile convulsions should be treated carefully, as the possibility of epilepsy exists.
