A new video hard disk system for multimedia program production

Tatsuya Kurioka; H. Minami; H. Okuda; E. Ohshima

This paper reports on a new video hard disk system for real-time recording and playing back of high-quality digital video signals, an important component in the production of multimedia programs at broadcasting stations. The paper clarifies some of the problems associated with the recording of high-quality video signals on a conventional hard disk system designed for storing computer data. It describes the requirements of a future video hard disk system. We have developed an experimental high-speed hard disk interface device suitable for transferring video signals. This device can guarantee continuous transfer of video signals with a high bit rate, sending them at 123 Mbps/ch-more than twice as fast as a conventional device. Using this interface, we have developed a video hard disk system capable of real-time recording and playing back of non-compressed video signals (conventional TV).

Abstract In order to lower costs and to improve the mobility of HDTV program production, a small format digital VTR using a compact cassette is needed. We have been studying bit rate reduction (BRR) techniques with the objective of recording high quality HDTV images over a long recording time. In this paper, we present a concept for broadcast-use cassette HDTV-VTR, show the characteristics of multiple copies, and propose new architectures of compression, rate control and code arrangement.

RMP (rights management and protection) system for digital broadcasting based on home servers

Yusei Nishimoto; Akitsugu Baba; Tatsuya Kurioka; Seiichi Namba

This paper presents an RMP (rights management and protection) system for digital broadcasting based on home servers using receivers with home storage devices. This RMP system is suitable for broadcasting, enabling rights protection and advanced access control (term of validity, usage and charge condition, etc.) of stored content on home storage devices.

Storage technology for television home server

Haruo Okuda; Tatsuya Kurioka

Abstract The progress of high-density recording technology has brought about new fields in storage applications. A television home server is a home storage system for the age of digital broadcasting. It records the viewers favorite programs automatically for subsequent viewing at any time. We propose an architecture for the home server realizing a high-speed recording/ playback capability with very large capacity.

A Method of Modeling Disk Drives for Video Recording.

Toshiyuki Fujisawa; Yusei Nishimoto; Tatsuya Kurioka; Toshihiro Uehara; Haruo Okuda

Hard disk drives were developed as a recording medium for computer data , and are now also used to store multimedia data such as video and audio. However, this is not yet a practical medium for use in broadcasting . We are developing a video hard-disk system that will allow high-bitrate recording/playback while maintaining video signal continuity. As a step toward realizing a video hard-disk system, we have developed a hard-disk tool capable of precisely evaluating hard disk performance. It is also essential to model hard disks to efficiently develop a video hard-disk system. In this paper, we describe a method of modeling hard disks, and show how this model can be used to improve the performance of hard disk systems. キー ワー ド:評 価手法,ハ ー ドデ ィス ク,映 像記録,モ デル化,デ ,ベ ンチマー クテス ト
