Chirle Colpini; Danielle Parra Travagin; Thelma Shirlen Soares; Versides Sebastião Moraes e Silva

This study aimed to test and select models, with and without bark volume, and to determine the form factor and bark percentage of an open ombrophylous forest in northwest Mato Grosso. 91 trees were cubed by obtaining diameter, bark percentage, stem height and solid stem volume. A total of 10 models were tested. Statistical procedures, such as adjusted determination coefficient, residual error and distribution of residuals, were tested. The selected models were validated by the L&O test. The average form factor was 0.7424 and 0.7297, with and without bark, respectively. The average volume of bark was 0.4292 m3 (7.45% of total volume). The Schumacher-Hall model showed the best performance for volumes with and without bark.

The objective of this study was to analyze the floristic composition, diversity and similarity of a submontane, semideciduous tropical forest in Marcelândia-MT, in an ecological tension area in the forest contact region. The 33 families and 92 species specimens were found in 4008 individuals, in 74 plots of 10m x 250 m. The families that contributed most frequently to the floristic composition were Lauraceae (15.99%), Melastomataceae (12.97%), Sapotaceae (12.50%), Fabaceae - Mimosoideae (9.91%), Burseraceae (9.13%) and Moraceae (7.29%). The Shannon-Weaver diversity, Simpson concentration and Pielou evenness indexes indicated that the area presents relatively high diversity and low concentration of species with high uniformity in the ratios of individuals per species. The floristic similarity standards had low similarity among the evaluated areas evidencing the existence of phitogeografic standards based on the species distribution.

The projection of the diametrical distribution and production is of great importance for the planning and decision taking in the management of forest stands. The objective of this work was to apply a diametric distribution model in the prediction of distribution and yield of a eucalyptus stand by adjusting and application of the Weibull function with two fitting parameters and truncated. The use of the truncated Weibull estimates provided slightly superior estimates than the Weibull function with two fitting parameters.

The Feller-buncher is a machine used in for forest harvesting, whose main function is to cut and gather trees. In this study, we performed a technical and economical analysis of felling whole trees with the Feller-buncher in two different areas of eucalyptus stands (position 1 = cut to 45th and position 2 = cut to 90th). The technical analysis included a study of times and movements and of productivity. The economical analysis evaluated the parameters of operational cost, production cost, and energy income. Positions 1 and 2 did not differ with regard to tipping, as to the time to complete the registration of the trees and was cutting the partial element that consumed most of the operational cycle time, with approximately 66% of this, the two positions dropped. The productivity per effective hour of work of the Feller-buncher was approximately 347 trees (48.8 m3/he), the operating cost of R

3.95 per m3 and an efficiency of 3.8 g /W m3 for both positions of felled trees. Despite the similarity in terms of productivity and cost of the two positions evaluated, we recommend cutting trees down to 45 th, due to ease of overturning these and to facilitate subsequent operations (extraction).

This research aimed to study the increase in diameter, basal area, volume, the entry, and the mortality of an open/seasonal ombrophilous forest in the city of Marcelândia. Data were collected in 69 permanent plots established in 2001 and remeasured in 2003 and 2007. The number of individuals and the increases in diameter, basal area, and volume for the period 2001 to 2007 were evaluated. The entry was determined by the trees that have reached or exceeded a diameter of 17 cm. Mortality was calculated as the sum of all found dead trees in each measurement with a diameter equal or more than 17 cm. In the considered period of six years, the results to the increase in diameter, basal area, and volume were respectively, 0.34 cm, 0.22 m².ha -1 , and 2.11 m³.ha -1 . The average values for the mortality rates and entry respectively were 0.78% and 0.30%.
