Polyhedron | 1984

Synthesis of sterically demanding phenoxide derivatives of Ti(IV) and Zr(IV), M(O-2,4,6-(t-Bu)3C6H2)2X2 (X NMe2, M Ti, Zr; X Cl, M Ti): x-ray crystal structure of Ti(O-2,4,6-(t-Bu)3C6H2)2(NMe2)2

Richard A. Jones; John G. Hefner; Thomas C. Wright

Abstract The interaction of M(NMe2)4 with excess 2,4,6-tri-t-butylphenol yields M{O-2,4,6-(t-Bu)3C6H2}2(NMe2)2[M  Ti (1) (82%); M = Zr (2) (88%)]. Further reaction of 1 with neat Me3SiCl yields M{O-2,4,6-(t-Bu)3C6H2}2Cl2 (3) (90% yield). The solid-state structure of 1 has been determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The coordination geometry around Ti is a distorted tetrahedron.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1984

Phosphorus heterocycle synthesis using phosphenium ions and 1,4-dienes

Alan H. Cowley; Constantine A. Stewart; Bruce R. Whittlesey; Thomas C. Wright

Abstract The stabilized phosphenium ion, [Pr i 2 NPCl] + , reacts readily with 1,4-dienes to afford high yields of bicyclic phosphonium salts, the structure of one of which has been determined by X-ray crystallography.

Detection of cervical precancer using optical spectroscopy (Extended Abstract)

Nirmala Ramanujam; Michele Follen-Mitchell; Anita Mahadevan-Jansen; Constantinos Pitris; Anant Agrawal; Sharon L. Thomsen; Gregg Staerkel; Thomas C. Wright; Rebecca Richards-Kortum

The continuing morbidity and mortality rate related to cervical cancer necessitates an improvement in current screening and diagnostic programs that target early detection of its curable precursor, cervical squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL). Optical spectroscopy is a technique that has the capability to improve the accuracy and efficacy of current techniques for the detection of SILs. We have utilized fluorescence spectroscopy for the differential detection of SILs, in vivo and we have also evaluated the utility of near infrared (IR) Raman spectroscopy for the characterization of SILs in vitro.
