Orifice flap for intake systems at limited installation space

Matthias Alex; Thomas Jessberger

In contemporary engines, turbocharging increases air mass flow, which, in turn, requires a larger intake pipe cross-section to reduce pressure drop. However, a larger cross-section results in higher intake noise, which must be reduced using a comparatively large volume bypass resonator. Since the necessary installation space can hardly be found in downsized engines with start-stop systems, innovative technical solutions should be thought. And exactly this is where the orifice flap design developed by Mann+Hummel can be used. This paper describes this innovative flap as a solution of the conflict between pressure drop and intake noise in vehicles.

Mündungsklappe für Ansaugsysteme bei beengter Bauraumsituation

Matttthias Alex; Thomas Jessberger

Plastic oil pan for the reduction of costs, weight and CO2

Thomas Jessberger; Steffen Ritter; Matthias Teschner

The engine oil pan is one of the last high-volume components of the car engine which has previously not been produced in series from plastic. Following the series introduction of the plastic oil pan for the truck sector, Mann+Hummel is now presenting a solution for the car. The drastically reduced component weight and its positive effects on fuel consumption and the CO2 balance are significant arguments in favour of the plastic component.

Pkw-Kunststoffölwanne zur Reduzierung von Kosten, Gewicht und CO2

Thomas Jessberger; Steffen Ritter; Matthias Teschner

Innovative cylinder head cover module for a V6 diesel engine

Gilles Basset; Thomas Jessberger

A multi-functional plastic module from Mann+Hummel for the first time combines the cylinder head cover, variable intake manifold and a throttle valve with exhaust gas recirculation in a very small space. Cost and weight have been reduced by around 20 % compared to individual components.
