Abstract The novel structures of organometallic compounds, 1-biaryl-3-ferrocenyl-2-propene-1-one (5) and 3-biaryl-1-ferrocenyl-2-propene-1-one (9) were synthesized for nonlinear optical chromophores by Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. Their structures were determined with elemental analyses, IR spectra, 1H NMR spectra, and 13C NMR spectra.

Abstract An efficient synthesis of 3,3-di(1H-indol-3-yl)indolin-2-ones and 2,2-di(1H-indol-3-yl)-2H-acenaphthen-1-ones via a reaction of various isatins or acenaphthenequinone with indoles in the presence of p-methylbenzene sulfonic acid (p-TSA) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature is described. The advantages of this method include good reaction yield, simple workup procedure, and mild reaction condition. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

Abstract An efficient catalyst-free synthesis of 3′-benzoyl-4′,5′-diphenyl-2H-spiro[acenaphthylene-1,2′-pyrrolidin]-2-one derivatives via one-pot 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of acenaphthenequinone, arylmethyl amines, and chalcones with high regioselectivity is described. The structure of the cycloadducts were characterized by infrared, high-resolution mass spectrometry (electrospray ionization), 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectra, and the structure of 4a was confirmed using x-ray single-crystal structure analysis. A series of chiral tridentate Schiff-bases were prepared and used as ligands in the catalytic asymmetric Henry reaction. Under the optimal conditions, a variety of arylaldehydes were smoothly converted into corresponding adducts with high yields (up to 98%) and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee).

Four chiral Schiff bases were synthesized conveniently from chiral amino alcohol and 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde. These ligands were used to catalyze the addition of nitroalkanes to aldehydes under ambient conditions in good yields with up to 91% ee.

A series of clopyralid hydrazide-hydrazone derivatives (4a–p) have been synthesized. Their structures were confirmed by elemental analysis, infrared, and 1H NMR spectra. The bioactivities of compounds 4a–p were tested with barnyard grass, rape, and S. aureus, but the results showed that they could not be considered the promising herbicidal or antibacterial agents.

Abstract A ligand, 1,1′‐diacetylferrocene bis‐2‐furoylhydrazone (H2Bafh), and its lanthanide [Ln(III)] complexes, [Ln(H2Bafh)3] · (ClO4)3 · nH2O [complexes A: Ln = La(III), Gd(III), Tm(III), Yb(III)], and [Ln(H2Bafh)Cl2] · Cl · nH2O [complexes B: Ln = Y(III), La(III), Nd(III), Gd(III), Tm(III)] were prepared and characterized by microanalyses, IR, 1H NMR, and UV‐VIS spectra, molar conductivity, and TGA analyses.

ABSTRACT A one-pot, three-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, and 3,4-methylenedioxyphenol has been reported for the synthesis of novel 7-aryl-6H-benzo[h][1,3]dioxolo[4,5-b]xanthene-5,6(7H)-diones using environmentally benevolent para-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA) as the catalyst. This methodology provides a mild and fast route to diverse pyran derivatives in moderate to good yields. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT
