Encapsulated Paravesical Foreign Body

A large, round, paravesical mass was surgically removed from a 65-year-old man. The mass was an encapsulated aseptic granuloma surrounding a gauze that was left in situ 10 years previously at hernioplasty.

Kanamycin treatment of urinary infections.

Since June of the last year (1957) I have been using kanamycin (KM) on 200 patients in the urological field, as shown in TABLE 1. The blood level in humans following a single intramuscular injection of K M is shown in FIGURE 1. KM was given in 3 doses: 0.75, 1.0, and 1.5 gm.; the peak concentration in the blood was always attained within 1 hour. The administration of 1.0 or 1.5 gm., particularly the latter amount, gave an extremely high blood level. Excretion of KM in urine within 24 hours was 30 to 50 per cent of the injected dose, and its concentration per milliliter of urine fluctuated between 10 to 1000 pg. in accordance with the amount of the secreted urine.
