Abstract Angular distributions of cross section and analyzing power A y of protons scattered on deuterium were measured between 8.5 and 22.7 MeV. For the corresponding energy of incident deuterons scattered from hydrogen, angular distributions of the deuteron vector and tensor analyzing powers A y d , A yy and A xx were measured at 6 energies between 17 and 45.4 MeV. The proton and deuteron data together with corresponding data at lower energies are analyzed in terms of Legendre polynomials. The energy dependence of the resulting coefficients are discussed.

Abstract A new set of separable NN interactions has been constructed and applied in three-nuclcon Faddeev calculations. The results are tested with precise p-d cross section, vector and tensor analyzing power data at E p = 10 MeV. Coulomb effects are taken into account in an approximate way. Further remaining problems are discussed.

Abstract The differential cross section σ 0 (θ) and the analysing powers iT 11 ( θ ), T 20 ( θ ), T 21 ( θ ) and T 22 ( θ ) of the reactions 2 H(d, p) 3 H and 2 H(d, n) 3 He have been measured. The 2 H(d, p) 3 H reaction was measured at 9 energies between 3.0 and 11.5 MeV at lab angles between 7.5° and 160°. The reaction 2 H(d, n) 3 He was measured at 10.0 and 11.5 MeV at c.m. angles ranging from 95° to 156°. The results were fitted with Legendre polynomials and the resulting coefficients analysed for possible resonances in 4 He. Differences in the analysing powers between the 2 H(d, p) 3 H and the 2 H(d, n) 3 He reactions can be explained by Coulomb effects.

Abstract Phase shifts for p-d elastic scattering were extracted from the differential cross sections, proton polarization, vector and tensor analysing powers of the 1 H(d, d) 1 H scattering between E d = 6.0 and 11.5 MeV. Good fits to all the experimental data analysed could be obtained if, in the analysis, all physically expected degrees of freedom such as the splitting of phase shifts, mixing of states of different orbital angular momentum and non-conservation of channel spin were allowed. The angular momenta were restricted to L ≦ 4. The results are discussed and the influence of splitting and mixing on the observables are investigated. The Wolfenstein parameters of the proton scattering are predicted for the present solution and their insensitivity to changes in the phase shifts and mixing parameters is shown.

Abstract The differential cross section σ 0 (θ) and the analysing powers iT 11 ( θ ), T 20 ( θ ), T 21 ( θ ) and T 22 ( θ ) of the reaction 3 He(d, p) 4 He have been measured for 7 energies between 2.8 MeV and 11.5 MeV at lab angles between 0° and 160°. The results were fitted with Legendre polynomials. The energy dependence of the resulting Legendre coefficients indicate resonance-like behaviour at energies corresponding to excitations of 16.6 MeV, 17.5 MeV, 20.0 MeV, 20.9 MeV and 22.4 MeV in 5 Li. The reaction 3 He(d, p) 4 He is an excellent analyser for deuteron vector and tensor polarization when specific angles for the different analysing power are chosen.

Abstract The tensor polarization parameter 〈 T 20 〉 of deuterons elastically scattered on 4 He has been measured with the polarized deuteron beam from the ETH tandem accelerator. Measurements were made at c.m. angles between 33.6° and 145.8° in the energy range 3 to 11.5 MeV. The results show that d-α scattering is useful as an analyser for deuteron tensor polarization for deuteron energies in excess of 4 MeV.

Abstract By continuation of 14 tensor polarizations to the stripping and pick-up poles of the 2 H( d ,p) 3 H reaction we have determined ϱ D values for the deuteron and triton wavefunctions. The new precision value for the deuteron 0.0272 ± 0.004 suggests an increase of the applied strength of the OPE potentials. For the triton a value of 0.051±0.005 was found.

Phase shifts of angular momenta l ≦ 3 for d-α elastic scattering were extracted from differential cross sections and the vector and tensor analysing powers of the 4He(2He(d→,d)4He scattering between 3 and 11.5 MeV. Good fits to all the experimental data analysed could be obtained and the total reaction cross section correctly predicted. Continuous extension of the phase shifts to lower and higher energies is possible, and the P-wave phase shifts are well fixed by the analysed data. Single-level parameters of the 2+ and 1+ (T = 0) resonances were determined. The coupling between the S- and D-waves for J = 1 was found to be very small. No alternative solution could be found from the data used in this analysis.

Abstract Phase shifts for d-α elastic scattering have been extracted from differential cross sections and the vector and tensor analysing powers of 4He( d , d)4He scattering in the energy range from 3 to 17 MeV. The angular momenta were restricted to L ≦ 4 and mixing parameters e1 and e2. Good fits could be obtained to nearly all the experimental data analysed. The total reaction cross section and polarization-transfer coefficients were predicted and compared with the measured data; satisfactory agreement was found within the experimental errors. Evidence for a new resonance was found between 11 and 15 MeV.

Abstract The tensor analysing power T 20 for the 3 He ( d , p ) 4 He reaction at 0° has been measured between 0.34 and 11.60 MeV. Absolute calibrations of the measurements have been carried out at 6.69 MeV with the aid of the 16 O d ,α 1 14 N ∗ reaction and at 3.92 and 11.56 MeV with the 4 He ( d , d ) 4 He scattering. Excitation functions of the vector analysing power iT11 for d-α elastic scattering have been measured between 2.38 and 13.60 MeV at θlab = 37.5° and 45° and calibrated absolutely at 4.57 and 11.88 MeV.
