Reconceptualización de la entretención ficcional televisiva

This paper claims that the process of TV reception at private home requires a review and reconceptualization of the relation to entertainment. In Western culture there have been two different evaluations of entertainment. The negative evaluation sees entertainment as alienation and the positive one views it as playful fantasy involving existential enrichment. The article presents results of audience reception research, applying Jauss’ concept of identification with TV soap opera characters, and compares the identification with soap opera characters to the identification in the genre of “docudrama.” Key words: fictional entertainment, identification, TV soap opera, “docudrama.”
