Como vai a educação gerontológica nas escolas públicas do Distrito Federal?: um estudo com idosos e jovens

Carla Bianca Ferreira Moncaio Zanon; Vicente Paulo Alves; Carmen Jansen de Cárdenas

This paper results from quali-quantitative field research that supports a masters dissertation. The research sought to know the opinion of 58 students from elementary and high public schools in the Federal District and 54 elderly of the community about aging, old age and old people and its correlation with the presence or not of prejudice. We sought to determine if a group of eight schools develops some actions aimed to form habits, values and attitudes to overcome prejudices and end the generation gap (inter-generationality). The research data were collected through three instruments: 1) the application of a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Scale for the Assessment of Attitudes Toward the Elderly validated by Neri; 2) analyze of eight Pedagogical Projects of elementary and high schools of the Federal District, which allowed us to understand the dynamics of the context studied; and 3) completion of eighteen interviews, five with juvenile from schools, eight with directors (whose pedagogical proposals were examined) and five with elderly (residents in the central area of Brasilia). From the results of this study, it was possible to argue that prevailed more positive than negative attitudes in both groups. However, when they were submitted to the interviews, it has been noticed that the interviewees answered similar questions at the scale Neri and at Inventory Sheppard in a more negative way. We imply that its due to the existence of implicit prejudice against the elderly and old age revealed through the interviews. Another important finding is the lack of activities geared to the elderly, and/or approach of them with other generations in schools surveyed. Our data suggest that gerontology education should be part of the school curriculum, aiming to approach generations in order to overcome potential prejudices, making possible the exchange of experiences and the improvement of life quality for all.

Vicente Paulo Alves; Lucy Gomes Vianna

The article suggests the development of public policies for education of the elderly from a survey with young people and elderly living in the Federal District about relationship between generations, exploring the meaning of aging and its correlation with the presence or absence of bias between these groups. Furthermore, we also investigated initiatives of a few schools regarding the formation of values and attitudes in order to overcome prejudice and build bridges among generations. Data were collected by applying a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Scale for the Assessment of Attitudes Toward the Elderly and Inventory Sheppard. It was possible to observe a lack of activities geared to the elderly and their separation from other generations at the selected schools. The survey data indicates that education for the elderly should be part of public policy development and school curriculum, with the purpose of bringing generations together in order to overcome potential prejudice, enable the exchange of experiences and improve the quality of life and social inclusion of the elderly into the school life. The article suggests the development of public policies for education of the elderly 490 Vicente Paulo Alves e Lucy Gomes Vianna Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. Imagens representacionais das políticas públicas à educação e à saúde, no imaginário de um grupo de idosos da comunidade Quilombola−Kalunga, de Monte Alegre de Goiás

Fátima Gonçalves Messias Takahashi; Vicente Paulo Alves

The theories of the imagination of Gilberto Durand and the AT-9 Test of Yves Durand allow raise individual and group images. This survey was conducted through unstructured interviews on the imagination of a group of elderly individuals in the Quilombo-Kalunga community in Monte Alegre de Goias (Brazil). The interviews also concerned public policies of education and health, which can provide these elderly people with better living conditions. It is known that public policies’ supply and control guidelines in education and health are transcribed in the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 and the Statute of the Elderly (Law no. 10.741/2003), but they do not effectively reach Brazil’s most remote locations. The research report seeks to demonstrate that along with the Kalunga culture of silence is governmental omission and patronage, leaving the population without education and health services.
