Research Methodology: An Introduction

Vida Davidavičienė

Digital age brings the most dramatic changes in this study and research discipline as well as in other fields of human activities. Scientific research is known for a very long time, however in comparison with other research fields the business and management researches are a little bit younger. The information technologies and new research methodologies that have recently emerged, dramatically change the nature of the research. Therefore, researchers should be ready to absorb new possibilities and follow basic roles coming from earlier stages of the discipline. The intention of this chapter is to provide a brief introduction to those aspects of pertinent research to beginner researchers. The chapter presents the nature of scientific research so that it may be clearly understood and uses, as its basic approach, the fundamental principles of problem solving. The scope of the research provides an overviews the entire assumptions about reality, knowledge and human nature, key terms of theory and research presented. Main concepts of the research are discussed and all this is oriented to business, management and economic science specific.

A model for measuring passenger loyalty

Ilona Skačkauskienė; Neringa Vilkaitė-Vaitonė; Jurgita Raudeliūnienė; Vida Davidavičienė

AbstractLoyalty development is an essential condition for an increase in profit of airline, railway and road transport companies. It is undoubtedly relevant to the success of an organisation. However, there is a lack of unified and universally accepted indicators for customer loyalty. Consequently, a model for measuring customer loyalty can be barely applied to companies that provide transport services for passengers. This gap has presupposed the need to create a customer loyalty model that corresponds to modern needs of passenger transport organisations. The model needs to be flexible to be used by various transport organisations that provide services to passengers. Principal solutions for the design of a model for loyalty measurement emerged from the clarified role of passenger loyalty and evaluation problems. The worked out solutions include a selection of a proper concept (1), loyalty specification (2), and differentiation of loyalty measurement depending on accessible data (3). To measure loyalty, an...

Fourier Analysis for Stock Price Forecasting: Assumption and Evidence

Bohumil Stádník; Jurgita Raudeliūnienė; Vida Davidavičienė

The research addressed the relevant question whether the Fourier analysis really provides practical value for investors forecasting stock market price. To answer this question, the significant cycles were discovered using the Fourier analysis inside the price series of US stocks; then, the simulation of an agent buying and selling on minima and maxima of these cycles was made. The results were then compared to those of an agent operating chaotically. Moreover, the existing significant cycles were found using more precise methods, suggested in the research, and based on the results of an agent buying and selling on all possible periods and phases. It has been analysed whether these really existing cycles were in accordance with the significant cycles resulting from the Fourier analysis. It has been concluded that the Fourier analysis basically failed. Suchlike failures are expected on similar data series. In addition, momentum and level trading backtests have been used in a similar way. It has been found that the level trading does provide a certain practical value in comparison to the momentum trading method. The research also simplifies the complicated theoretical background for practitioners.

Rasma Janeliūnienė; Ginta Liberytė; Vida Davidavičienė

Information and communication technologies (ICT) have a decisive influence on the competitiveness of an organization. The efficiency of ICT management is a key factor in the process of production optimization, resource planning and management and other activities concerning the objectives of the organization. ICT like other resources have not only advantages, but also causes certain challenges for organizations. Information systems become an organic part of the organization. Thus, it is hard to imagine a contemporary organization where information and communication technologies are not used. The organizations, where activity success is based on ICT, are affecting external and internal factors as well as the ability to manage ICT and use different information systems. Success is not guaranteed by implementing a new information system or technology, because business processes should be evaluated taking into account the ability to react to potential changes. In order to prevent ICT risk, IT audit becomes extremely important within the organization. The aim of the article is to evaluate the possibilities of applying the existing IT audit methodologies (such as ITIL, CobIT, Val IT, ISO) in small and medium size organizations of Lithuania. The paper analyzes the significance and need of IT audit in small and medium size companies, identifies the features of such companies and proposes the existing IT audit methodologies. The methods of scientific literature analysis and comparison and statistical data analysis have been applied in the article. Article in Lithuanian
