Abstract Lars Wollins new book is a continuation of his dissertation (Wollin, 1981, reviewed in Acta 17, 2), in which a framework for the analysis of the translation of syntax was set up on the basis of an empirical investigation of a corpus of medieval Latin texts and their Swedish translations.

Einar Haugen: Scandinavian Language Structures.

Abstract Einar Haugens historical survey o f the Scandinavian languages covers c. 1500 years of Scandinavian language history, from the Proto-Scandinavian/ North Germanic language of the earliest runic inscriptions (before c. 550 A.D.) to the present-day spoken variants of the six Scandinavian official standard languages: Danish, Faroese, Icelandic, Bokmal-Norwegian, Nynorsk-Norwegian, and Swedish. (Of the languages in Scandinavia only those of Indo-European descent are included in the survey.)
