Abstract The angular distributions of several l =3 transitions observed in the 61,62 Ni(p,d) reactions demonstrate a very stable j -dependence over a range of intensities and excitations energy.

Abstract Angular distributions of the 40Ca(α, d)42Sc reaction at Eα = 40 MeV have been measured for states in 42Sc up to an excitation energy of 5.2 MeV. Assignments of the L-transfer are made on the basis of the characteristic shapes of the angular distributions. A strong L = 6 transition to a state at 3.61 MeV in the 42Sc is observed. Evidence for the fragmentation of the ( f 7 2 ) 2 5, 0 and ( f 7 2 p 3 2 ) 5, 0 configurations into the 5+ states at 1.51 and 3.09 MeV is discussed.

Abstract Angular distributions of the (α, d) reaction on 33 S, 35,37 Cl and 39,41 K have been measured at E α = 40 MeV. Excited states of the residual nuclei with the [( target ) J= 3 2 ⊗ (1 f 7 2 ) 2 J=7 ] 17 2 + configuration are suggested to correspond to the strongest observed L = 6 transition in each nucleus.

Angular distributions of the (..cap alpha..,d) reaction on /sup 32/ /sup 33/ /sup 34/S and /sup 35/ /sup 37/Cl have been measured at 40 MeV bombarding energy. High-spin states of (fp)/sup 2/ character in the final nuclei were identified on the basis of their strength and characteristic L = 4 and L = 6 angular distributions. For some states, spin assignments are suggested. The properties of the high-spin states are discussed.

Abstract Angular distributions of the 41 K(α, d) 43 Ca reaction have been measured at 40 MeV bombarding energy. Four-particle one-hole states in which the stripped proton-neutron pair occupies a ( f 7 2 ) 2 J = 7, T = 0 configuration coupled to the unperturbed 41 K core were identified by their characteristic L = 6 angular distributions. These states lie at 2.95, 3.37, 3.94, 4.13, 4.19, 4.59 and 4.89 MeV. Evidence for their [( f 7 2 ) 4 J = 7, T = 1 d −1 3 2 ] 4p-1h character is discussed. Several other strong transitions were observed which show mixtures of L = 4 and L = 6 angular distributions.

Abstract Calculations reported recently in this journal indicate a discrepancy between measurements of α+α→ n + 7 Be cross sections and phase shifts deduced from α+α elastic scattering. It is demonstrated that these calculations are erroneous.
