Study of the 12C(7Li, p)18O reaction

H. T. Fortune; L. R. Medsker; J.N. Bishop

Abstract The reaction 12 C( 7 Li, p) 18 O has been investigated at bombarding energies of 16.0 and 18.0 MeV, leading to all states below 7.5 and 8.3 MeV, respectively, in 18 O. Angular distributions were measured from 1.8° to 172.5° (lab) and integrated to get total cross sections. Forward-angle enhancement are observed for a number of low-spin final states. Despite these asymmetries, total cross sections are roughly proportional to 2 J +1 (within about 20%), allowing limits to be placed on the J -value for a number of states with previously unknown J .

Structure of 24Na from 22Ne(3He,p)24Na

H. T. Fortune; L. R. Medsker; S. C. Headley; K D Singer

In the 22Ne(3He,p)24Na reaction at 18 MeV, excitation energies and angular distributions have been measured for 28 levels below 4.7 MeV in excitation. A distorted-wave analysis identifies the L value for most of these, resulting in Jpi assignments for a number of levels and Jpi restrictions for most levels.

1+ and 0+ states in 90Y

H. T. Fortune; S. C. Headley; L. R. Medsker

Abstract The 88 Sr( 3 He, p) 90 Y reaction allows the identification of 1 + states at excitation energies of 1816 ± 5 and 2313 ± 10 keV, very close to the predictions of a recent core-coupling shell-model calculation. Three additional 0 + or 1 + states are observed above 3 MeV.

Study of the 17O(α, d)19F reaction☆

H. T. Fortune; L. R. Medsker; H. Nann; B. H. Wildenthal

Abstract At a bombarding energy of 47.5 MeV, the 17O(α, d)19F reaction is found to populate strongly only those positive-parity states that are known to consist predominantly of (sd)3 configurations. Distorted-wave calculations based on transfer amplitudes computed from shell-model wave functions provide good agreement to the measured angular distributions — in both shape and magnitude.
