Nafion® Membrane and its Applications

Walther Gustav Grot

The interest in electrolytic processes has increased considerably in recent years. In many of these processes, a divided cell is required and the success or failure of the operation often hinges on the availability of a separator with the required properties. These properties include mechanical strength and long-term stability in the operating environment of the cell. Oxidative stability is of particular importance because a major advantage of electrochemical processes is the generation of powerful oxidizing agents at the anode. Similarly, in fuel cells or batteries, high cell voltages require the use of strong oxidizers.
