Heterocycles | 1991

Chemistry of viologens

Wanda Sliwa; Barbara Bachowska; Natalia Zelichowicz

Pointing out electron acceptor properties of viologens, the outlines of porphyrin-viologen systems, complexes of viologens with donors and polymeric viologens are described along with biological interest of viologens

Heterocycles | 2003

Metallocyclodextrins and related species

Wanda Sliwa; Tomasz Girek

In first part of the review cyclodextrin (CD) complexes with copper and platinum ions are presented, followed by those with lanthanide ions. Then CD complexes of ferrocenes and of ruthenium ions bound with bipyridine and phenanthroline ligands are described. The next parts of the paper deal with CD complexes with metal ions bound in cyclens or porphyrins. At last some examples of CD-modified nanoparticles are given.

Heterocycles | 2002

Calixpyrroles and related compounds

Wanda Sliwa

The chemistry of calixpyrroles and related compounds is reviewed. Calixpyrroles, including examples of expanded species are presented along with calixphyrins. Synthetic approaches, binding properties and application possibilities of the above compounds are described.

Heterocycles | 2005

Interlocked molecules containing quaternary azaaromatic moieties

Wanda Sliwa; Teresa Zujewska

In the first part of the review examples of rotaxanes bearing quaternary azaaromatic moieties are presented, followed by examples of catenanes, shown in the second part. Among rotaxanes those containing tetracationic cyclophane, crown ether unit or other rings, such as cyclodextrins, cucurbiturils and calixarenes are described.

Heterocycles | 2002

Cavitands and related container molecules

Wanda Sliwa; Grazyna Matusiak; Malgorzata Deska

The chemistry of cavitands and container molecules, so covalently as noncovalently linked, is reviewed. Synthetic approaches and complexing properties of some of the above species are described.

Heterocycles | 1994

The reactivity of acridinium salts and related compounds

Wanda Sliwa

Reactions of quaternary acridinium salts and of N-substituted acridan systems are presented, along with derivatives and acridinium salts applied as chemiluminescent agents or DNA intercalators

Heterocycles | 1993

Host-guest complexes of azaaromatic quaternary salts

Wanda Sliwa; Lidia Chrzastek; Marian Mielniczak

Inclusion complexes, where azaaromatic quaternary salts serve as a guest or as a host are described, along with related rotaxanes and catenanes

Cyclodextrins: Properties and Applications

Wanda Sliwa; Tomasz Girek

Authored by two experts working in this important field of research, the timely book covers the latest advances in the synthesis of cyclodextrins, their properties and important industrial applications. To this end, the authors describe covalent and non-covalent assemblies, cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, cyclodextrin polymers, and modified cyclodextrins, resulting in an up-to-date overview of cyclodextrin chemistry. An invaluable reference for organic and polymer chemists in academia as well as those researchers in industry working in polymer, supramolecular and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as food, textile and cosmetic science.

Heterocycles | 2004

Rotaxanes Containing Quaternary Azaaromatic Moieties

Wanda Sliwa; Barbara Bachowska

In the paper at first rotaxanes are briefly described, then rotaxanes bearing quaternary azaaromatic moiety in the thread are presented followed by those containing quaternary azaaromatic moiety in the ring.

Heterocycles | 1990

Synthesis of 8-nitro- and 7-methoxy-8-nitro-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-c]-pyrimidines

Wanda Sliwa; Olivier Rousseaux; D. Blondeau; Henri Sliwa

4-Hydrazino-5-nitropyrimidine and its 6-methoxy derivative were condensed under heating with ethyl orthoformate to afford the title compounds through the intermediacy of an imino ether. In both cases the first formed 1,2,4-triazolo [4,3-c] pyrimidines were not isolated and directly converted to their [1,5-c] isomer by a Dimroth rearrangement
