The application of Environmental Friendly Technique For Seagrass Transplantation

Many attempts have been made to solve tremendous seagrass losses the marine environment in many area in the world. Artificial transplanting of shoots and spreading of seeds from intact meadows to non-vegetated coastal sediment are the most applied techniques. The study was aimed to apply environmentally seagrass tranplantation techniques in less vegetated area. Frame and small tube made from bamboo were used to do seagrass tranplantation in Jepara Waters. Vegetative shoots (springs) of Enhalus acoroides dan Cymodocea serrulata were collected from a healthy donor bed located nearby the transplantation site, and planted into unvegetated areas. Test transplant survival was assessed every month for three months. The result revealed that the survival rates of transplants were varied with the area. It might have due to difference in sediment characteristics of transplanting sites and transplant technique are discussed.

Re-Deskripsi Teripang Stichopus hermanii Dari Kepulauan Karimunjawa Melalui Analisa Morfologi, Anatomi Dan Spikula (Ossicles)

Holothuroidea atau yang lebih dikenal dengan sebutan teripang laut atau timun laut merupakan salah satu kelas dari Echinodermata. Penampakan morfologi teripang yang hampir mirip satu dengan yang lain mengakibatkan sering terjadi kekeliruan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji lebih jauh tentang identifikasi Stichopus hermanii berdasarkan morfologi, anatomi serta bentuk dan komposisi spikula yang terdapat pada teripang Stichopus hermanii. Hasil pengamatan morfologi berdasarkan bentuk, corak dan warna serta tipe spikula menunjukkan bahwa Stichopus hermanii berwarna teripang berukuran besar dengan panjang mencapai 50 cm. Teripang ini berwarna kuning-kecoklatan dan pada papila kecil terdapat bercak keabu-abuan di seluruh permukaan tubuh dan bagian dorsal yang berbuku-buku. Bentuk dan komposisi spikula didominasi oleh bentuk roset dan meja dengan bentuk kaki empat. Kata kunci : teripang, Stichopus hermanii, re-deskripsi, morfologi, anatomi, spikula (ossicle) Holothuroidea well-known as sea cucumbers is one class of Echinoderm. Morphology of sea cucumbers are almost similar to each other resulting in frequent error of identification. This study aims to re-describe of Stichopus hermanii based its on morphology, anatomy and the form and composition of the spicules. Results of morphological description based on shape, pattern and color as well as the type of spicules shows that Stichopus hermanii has yelow brownish color. The shape and composition of the spicules is dominated by a rosette shape and a table with four legs form. Kelimpahan Fitoplankton di Padang Lamun Buatan (Artificial Seagrass Bed as Phytoplankton Habitat)

Padang lamun berperan penting dalam menjaga kelestarian berbagai jenis organism laut. Namun secara umum kondisi ekosistem lamun saat ini semakin menurun. Melalui pengembangan padang lamun buatan diharapkan dapat membantu mengembalikan fungsinya, termasuk pertumbuhan fitoplankton sebagai epifit pada salah satu orgasnime yang berasosiasi di dalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat keberhasilan penciptaan habitat fitoplankton di padang lamun buatan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan dua model lamun buatan yang terbuat dari tali kalas, tanaman plastik berbentuk semak, dan transplantasi lamun asli jenis Enhalus acoroides serta padang lamun asli sebagai control dengan empat kali ulangan. Fitoplankton yang diperoleh selama penelitian sebanyak 30 jenis. Jenis fitoplankton yang mendominansi semua perlakuan adalah kelas Bacillariophyceae yaitu genus Nitzschia, Coscinodiscus, Bidulphia, Rhizosolenia dan Skeletonema. Jumlah jenis dan kelimpahan fitoplankton yang tertangkap terlihat berbeda di setiap sampling pengamatan. Hingga akhir pengamatan jumlah jenis dan kelimpahan fitoplankton tidak terlihat perbedaan antara lamun buatan dan padang lamun asli. Indeks keanekaragaman dan keseragaman fitoplankton dalam kategori sedang pada ketiga perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunju k kan bahwa padang lamun buatan sama efektifnya dengan padang lamun asli dalam menyediakan tempat untuk penempelan fitoplankton sebagai epifit serta meningkatkan produktivitas primer di ekosistem padang lamun. Kata kunci : habitat, fitoplankton, padang lamun buatan Seagrass bed is one of coastal area ecosystems, which has important role for various marine organisms. Artificial seagrass bed can create new habitat for phytoplankton as one of epiphyte organisms which is associated with others marine organisms. The purpose of this research is to know successful a phytoplankton growth in artificial seagrass bed at Teluk Awur Coastal area, Jepara.. There were three treatments in this research i.e. (a) artificial seagrass bed from kalas rope, (b) artificial seagrass made from plastic, (c) seagrass of Enhalus acoroides, and natural seagrass bed ecosystem as control, with 4 replications. Thirty phytoplankton species were found in that area. Several genera from class Bacillariophyceae dominanted at all treatments, i.e. Nitzschia, Coscinodiscus, Bidulphia, Rhizosolenia and Skeletonema. There were differences on the number of species and abundance of phytoplankton every time sampling. However, the number of species and abundance of phytoplankton were similar between artificial seagrass bed and natural seagrass bed at the end of this research. All treatments have medium category for diversity and evenness index. The results suggest that artificial seagrass bed is as effective as natural seagrass for location (medium) for phytoplankton habitat and for increasing primary productivity.
