Quantitative Estimation of Some Phosphatides and Their Hydrolysis Products by Thin Layer Chromatography.

William M. Doizaki; Leslie Zieve

Summary The use of thin layer chromatography for analyzing phosphatides and their hydrolysis products quantitatively is described and applied to the analysis of serum phosphatides. The results are similar to those obtained with silicic acid impregnated paper chromatography and column techniques, though the time for the analysis is markedly shortened.

Effect of surface-active agents on post-heparin lipase activity

William M. Doizaki; Leslie Zieve

Abstract Cationic detergents stimulated post-heparin plasma lipase activity both in the presence and absence of Ca 2+ , whereas nonionic detergents were not stimulatory. Reactivity of the enzyme to anionic detergents appeared to depend on the type of detergents used and whether Ca 2+ was present or absent. The results suggest that the stability of the substrate is influenced by the net charges on the particles and that lipolysis is more likely to occur if the charge is positive.

Experimental Biology and Medicine | 1966

An improved substrate preparation for postheparin plasma lipase.

William M. Doizaki; Leslie Zieve

Summary A rapid, simple, reproducible and readily available substrate preparation for estimating postheparin plasma lipase is described. Ca++ is obligatory but can be replaced by other cations such as NH4 +, Na+ or Mg++ . No preference was shown by postheparin plasma lipase for triglycerides with a particular fatty acid chain length or degree of saturation or unsaturation.
