We compared the ultrasound (US) findings of gallbladder (GB) perforation with computed tomography (CT) in 13 patients with GB perforation confirmed at surgery. The common findings of GB perforation were pericholecystic fluid collection and layering of GB wall on US, pericholecystic fluid collection, streaky omentum or mesentery, and GB wall defect on CT. Pericholecystic fluid collection, layering of GB wall, and cholelithiasis were similarly detected on US or CT. GB wall defect and/or bulging of the GB wall suggested a site of perforation was revealed in five patients (38.5%) on US and nine (69.2%) on CT. CT further disclosed the findings of streaky omentum or mesentery (84.6%). CT was superior to US for diagnosis of GB perforation.

Thin-section CT scans were performed in 40 patients to demonstrate the normal appearance of the lingular division (LD) bronchus and its segmental and subsegmental bronchi and to search out the possible anatomical landmark dividing the anterior segment and LD of the left upper lobe. The LD bronchus was identified in all patients. The complete branching pattern of the lingular segmental and subsegmental bronchi could be traced in 19 (47.5%) patients. Since the lower branch of the draining vein of the anterior segment of the left upper lobe (V3b) runs horizontally between the anterior segment and the LD of the left upper lobe, it is a good landmark dividing the anterior segment and LD of the left upper lobe. Familiarity with thin-section CT anatomy of the lingular segmental and subsegmental bronchi and surrounding vascular structures is helpful in identifying the lingular bronchial tree precisely and localizing a lesion in the left upper lobe correctly.

We recently experienced an omental teratoma in a 34-year-old woman. Ultrasonography (US) revealed a large mass of mixed echogenicity, occupying the entire lower abdomen. Computed tomography showed an inhomogeneous solid and cystic mass in the abdominal cavity containing fat and calcification.
