The hydrothermal reaction of Co(MeCO2)2·4H2O, 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 4-hydroxy-isophthalate (or isophthalate) resulted in two isostructural metal–organic frameworks and X-ray single-crystal structural analyses revealed that they have non-interpenetrated double-layered frameworks with 1-D nanosized channels encapsulated removable 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and water molecules.

In the title mononuclear complex, [Fe(C6H5N3O)6](ClO4)3·2C2H3N, the FeIII ion shows a close-to-ideal octaxadhedral geometry coordinated by six O atoms from six 1-hydroxyxadbenzotriazole ligands. The ligand benzotriazole exists as a zwitterion.

The anionic entity in the title octamolybdate, (C6H14N2)2[Mo8O26]·4H2O, has a chain structure in which the [Mo8O26]4− units share terminal O atoms. The O atoms in the chain are two-, three- and four-coordinate. The anionic unit occupies a special position of overline 1 site symmetry and the MoVI atoms are all octahedrally coordinated.

The water-coordinated Cd atom in the title compound, [Cd(C5H3N2O4)(H2O)2], lies on an inversion centre and is N,O-chelated by imidazole-4,5-dixadcarboxylxadate anions, defining an octahedral environment. The structure is isomorphous with the Mn analogue [Ma, Chen, Chen & Liu (2003). Acta Cryst. C59, m516–m518].

In the crystal structure of the yellow copper(I) compound, {[Cu2(SO4)(C10H8N2)2]·4H2O}n, one [(C10H8N2)2Cu]n chain is stacked over another [Cu⋯Cu = 3.180u2005(1)u2005A]; the two chains are bridged by SO4 groups through two Cu—O bonds into a double-chain motif. The SO4 groups are located alternately on opposite sides of the double chain and lie on twofold rotation axes. The disordered solvent water molxadecules occupy the space between the double chains. The CuI atom exists in a T-shaped environment.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Zn (C12H8N2)(C3H5O5P)(H2O)2]·2H2O, the zinc atom is five-coordinate in a trigonal bipyramidal N2O3Zn environment; the apical sites are occupied by the aqua ligand and the N atom of the heterocycle. Hydroxadgen bonds link the zwitterions and lattice water molxadecules into a three-dimensional network motif.

Each Cu atom in the centrosymmetric dinuclear title compound, [Cu2(C3H5O5P)2(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2], is chelated by an N-heterocycle and is also coordinated by a molxadecule of water. The two Cu atoms are bridged by the 3-phosphoxadnoxadpropionate(2−) unit, giving rise to a square-pyramidal geometry for the metal centre. The molxadecules are linked by hydrogen bonds into a layer structure.

The hydroxadthermal reaction of cobalt acetate, vanadium pentoxide and 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiaxaddiazoxadle resulted in the title complex, [Co(V2O6)(C12H8N4S)(H2O)3], in which the cobalt(II) cation shows distorted octahedral geometry, coordxadinated by one pyridine N atom, two O atoms from tetravanadate and three water molxadecules.

The Mn atom and the coordinated water molxadecule in the title compound, [Mn(C7H6NO2S)2(H2O)]n, lie on a twofold axis; the Mn atom is chelated by the carboxyl –CO2 units and is also coordinated by the pyridyl N atoms of two adjacent anionic groups in a seven-coordinate trans-pentagonal bipyramidal geometry. The polymeric chain runs in a zigzag manner along the c axis, and neighboring chains are linked into a hydrogen-bonded layer structure.

The Cu atom in the zwitterionic title compound, [Cu(C7H6NO2S)2(H2O)4], lies on a center of symmetry. It is linked to the pyridyl N atoms of two anionic groups and to four water molxadecules in an octahedral arrangement. The compound is isostructural with the Ni analog, whose structure has been reported [Zhang, Fang, Wu & Ng (2004). Acta Cryst. E60, m135–m136].
