Synthesis and characterization of thiazolylazo chromophore for nonlinear optical applications

Qiwei Pan; Zhenyu Zhang; Changshui Fang; Wei Shi; Qingtian Gu; Xiangwen Wu

Bathochromic thiazolylazo second-order nonlinear optical chromophore, having 2-hydroxylethyl group in a molecule, has been prepared. The temperature decomposition of the chromophore was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The second-order polarizabilities at zero energy and the dispersion of second-order polarizabilities were measured by solvatochromic method. The other parameters of the chromophore were also measured.

Synthesis and characterization of nonlinear optical chromophores containing α-cyan with thermal stability

Qiwei Pan; Changshui Fang; Zhenyu Zhang; Zhihui Qin; Feng Li; Qingtian Gu; Xiangwen Wu; Jinzhong Yu

Abstract Nonlinear optical donor–acceptor chromophores containing α-cyan were synthesized. The decomposition temperature was determined by differential scanning calorimetry, and the absorption spectra were measured. The molecular first hyperpolarizabilities were measured by solvatochromic method, and the dispersion of linear electro-optic effects was firstly measured according to the experimental results of UV spectrum and dielectric constants for three chromophore molecules. And an additional merit of these chromophores has a noticeably high thermal stability and good solvability.

Three thermal organic second-order nonlinear optical chromophores were synthesized. The decomposition temperature was determined by DSC, and the absorption spectra was measured. The second-order polarizabilities at zero energy and the dispersion of second-order polarizabilities were measured by solvatochromic method.

New electro-optics polymer DCNP/PEK-c film

Changshui Fang; Wei Shi; Qiwei Pan; Qingtian Gu; Xiangwen Wu

New polymer host-guest system DCNP/PEK-c films have been investigated. The films were prepared by spin coating method. New films have higher Tg and larger electro-optic coefficient as well as low optic transmission loss.

Study of the single-beam reflection technique for measuring the linear electro-optic coefficient of the nonlinear optical polymer films

Wei Shi; Changshui Fang; Qiwei Pan; Qingtian Gu; Xiangwen Wu; Dong Xu; Hongzhen Wei; Jinzhong Yu

Abstract The single-beam reflection technique is usually used to measure the linear electro-optic (EO) coefficient (Pockels coefficient) in development of the EO polymer thin films. But there are some problems in the determination of the phase-shift difference between the s and p waves of a laser beam waveguided into the polymer film while a modulating voltage is applied across the electrodes in some articles, and different expressions of the linear EO coefficient have been deduced in these articles. In our research, more accurate expression of the linear EO coefficient was deduced by reasonably considering the phase shift between the s and p waves. The linear EO coefficients of several polymer thin films were measured by the reflection technique, and the results of the linear EO coefficient calculated by different expressions were compared. The limit of the single-beam reflection technique for measuring the linear EO coefficient of the polymer thin films was discussed.
