Study on Typical Traditional Silk looms in Shanxi Province

Traditional silk looms are connected with traditional textile technology, which also represent the development degree of technology and society. This thesis discuss some kinds typical traditional silk looms of Shanxi province, in north of China, and draw a conclusion that standing loom originated in Song dynasty still existed in a few villages until modern China, but other two typical silk looms originated from the Ming dynasty and were used and widespread until 1980s in north of China. This thesis focuses on the key parts and functions of silk looms, explains the operation mechanism, and also compares the similar looms in different regions.

Research on Health Function of Silk Fiber

Based on researches, silk fabrics have certain health and medical functions. This thesis discusses the different fibers’ structures, and showed that human’s comfort of silk fabric depend on the structural features and hygroscopicity of silk fiber. Also this thesis explores the anti-bacterium and thermal conductivity of silk fiber. The comfortable health functions of silk fabric are based on natural properties of silk fiber.

Uyghur carpet has distinct national characteristics and intense local color, so it is renowned as “Oriental” carpet with unique style. This article focuses on the account of the history, craftsmanship and pattern of Uyghur carpet.

Study on the Evolution of the Looms in Ancient China

The development path of the looms is a key to study on the looms in ancient China. Based on the studies on historical materials and archeological findings of the looms in ancient China, we found that there were two paths in the development process of the looms in ancient China. Before the Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220), plain weave and figure-weave fabrics were produced on similar looms. But after the Han Dynasty, the two kinds of looms evolved into all kinds of the treadle loom, the multi-heald and multi-treadle loom and the draw loom.

The Xinjiang Hotan/(HeTian) carpet, as a kind of ethnic handicraft, plays a very significant role in the Uyghur living, embracing a long history, which is a product combining comprehensive arts such as drawing, spinning, carving, knitting and dying etc. by innovative Uyghur people with many years of industrious work. In fact, carpet craftsmanship is handed down by Uyghur’s ancestors, experiencing a great long development process, which has great fundamental meaning for Uyghur people. The paper tells about its history, patterns and craft of Uyghur carpet.

Study on Figuring Technique on a Back-Strap Loom of Li Nationality

Figuring technique on a back-strap loom of Li nationality is a key to study on the most primitive form of figuring in ancient China. However, the previous studies on figuring technique on a back-strap loom of Li nationality were not very clear, and led to much misunderstanding. Based on our investigation on the spot of Hainan province, we introduce the arrangement principle of weave structure of brocade of Li nationality and the operation principle of figuring technique on the back-strap loom, at last we explain the operational process of figuring technique on a back-strap loom of Li nationality. It is concluded that figuring technique on a back-strap loom of Li nationality employs the dislocation arrangement of figuring parts.
