Using formal concept analysis to visualize relationships of syndromes in traditional chinese medicine

Xulong Liu; Wenxue Hong; Jialin Song; Tao Zhang

Computer-aided syndrome differentiation is one of most active issues in how to digitize the Traditional Chinese Medicine. The main purpose of this paper is to show the use of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) to visualize the dependencies of syndromes of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Heart-Spleen syndrome serving as an example. First, the syndromes and syndrome factors are defined as the objects and attributes, then their concepts and the hierarchical relationships are described in mathematical language, finally their hierarchy is visualized by concept lattice. This approach may make syndromes knowledge clearer, and may make data mining of TCM more efficient.

Research on Wavelet Denoising for Pulse Signal Based on Improved Wavelet Thresholding

Fengxiang Chang; Wenxue Hong; Tao Zhang; Jun Jing; Xulong Liu

Pulse signal is the non-stationary random signal, the signal denoising is an important task before analyzing it. Based on wavelet thresholding denoising method presented by Donoho, a new compromising threshold function is proposed. Compared with classical thresholding denoising methods, it overcomes the discontinuity of the hard-thresholding method and reduces the fixed deviation between the estimated wavelet coefficients and the decomposed wavelet coefficients of the soft thresholding method. The experiment results show that the improved method gives better Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Mean Square Error (MSE) than the soft-thresholding method, hard-thresholding method and the standard compromising method between them.

On the basis of the theory of formal concept analysis (FCA), we proposed a new method based on hierarchical optimization formal context for generating attribute hierarchical graphs in this paper. By this method, we optimize the formal context of kidney disease, than build an attribute hierarchical graph, and discover the diagnosis knowledge in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at last. Finally, by combing former literature research we would like to show the availability and effectiveness of the proposed method.

In order to solve the problems that how to mine and express classification knowledge and rules in compatibility of prescription, this paper introduces a new theory of formal concept analysis (FCA), and realizes the compatibility of prescription knowledge mining. Meanwhile, the prescription drugs of reverting yin disease treatment in Treatise on febrile diseases are selected to apply the FCA theory to mine the compatibility of prescription. The result shows that complete knowledge which is related to prescription can be obtained from the attribute partial order chart, therefore it has been proved that the theory of FCA provides a new method to discovery the new knowledge of prescription of TCP.

A new method for generation of an attribute hierarchical diagram is proposed in this paper, which is based on the hierarchical optimized formal context. Firstly, this paper introduces the method of hierarchical optimization of formal context. Then by using this method, optimize the formal context which extracts from a set of related syndromes occurring in spleen and draw the hierarchical diagram of attributes. Finally, mine useful knowledge from the hierarchical diagram of attributes based on the theory of knowledge representation. And the result shows that the method for discovering Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnostic knowledge is feasible and effectual.

Formalizing the Coding Rules of Clinical Terminology on Traditional Chinese Medicine Using Formal Concept Analysis

Xulong Liu; Jingmin Luan; Wenxue Hong; Baohong Mi

Formalizing of the coding rules of clinical terminology on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an important aspect of medical information mining and has attracted interests of researchers in such diverse fields as information visualization and formal concept analysis (FCA). The main purpose of this paper is to show the use of FCA to formalize and visualize the dependencies of TCM clinical terminology. First, the TCM term and its description are defined as the object and attribute, then the hierarchical relationships of TCM terms has been formalized by concept lattice, finally anonymous nodes and non-disjoint nodes are employed for auditing the completeness, consistency and correctness of the coding rules of TCM terminology. The proposed method is validated by experiments with the case study, which demonstrates that it should be possible to produce a FCA-based method of formalizing and auditing the semantic completeness of TCM terminology.

Jialin Song; Fengjie Fan; Xulong Liu; Shumei Ji; Jun Jing; Hailong Jin; Haibo Pan

This paper presents the design of compound-light physiotherapy apparatuses for gastrointestinal disease treatment. A contactless measuring temperature method based on infrared ray has been adopted in this paper, and designs a fuzzy control algorithm of body surface temperature. The result demonstrated that the fuzzy controller can keep the celerity of response, and maintain a nice performance without steady state error and over-shoot. When parameters or structure are changed, the robustness and adaptability of the apparatuses has also been proved that it will be favorable.
