Abstract In this paper, we will discuss the problem how human behavior at home could be detected and how its model could be constructed. Understanding human behavior or action is important to establish a new technology that focuses on individual behaviors. Especially, it is necessary to know human habitual behavior in order to improve life environment. In actual environment, many electric appliances, e.g. TV set, washing machine, microwave stove, used at home. In this study, in order to find human habitual behavior, a sensor for electric appliance is used provided that there exist some relations between turning on/off those electric appliances and our action. Using primitive information of turning on/off, we describe human behavior at home by a binary matrix and uses neural network to express human state at home. The simulation results show that the proposed method has good performance to detect human irregular behavior at home.

Currently, metabolic syndrome is one of the most all-too-common terms in Japan and it has been pointed out that the number of patients afflicted with lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipemia is rapidly growing. It takes many days to heal from lifestyle diseases completely, and prevention is the best way to keep us healthy. Furthermore it is well-known that dietary cure is one of effective methods to prevent from lifestyle diseases. This paper describes a designing and implementation of alimentary therapy assist system. The system records users meal history and provide the user with healthy menu based on medical information, body condition, users meal history individual taste and market price of cooking materials.

Its not easy for physically disabled students to communicate with others. Aim of this study is to develop communication aid application for such disabled students. Some of disabled students can express his/her feelings with facial expression even though they cannot move their hands or fingers. For these students, eye movement is one of the most important channels of communication. Therefore we make a better communication aid application which detects eye movement using image processing techniques. Several applications that detect line-of-sight are proposed so far however, the cost of these applications are very high and cannot be used easily. In this study, a communication aid application is implemented on a tablet terminal. Our proposed communication aid application plays voice for the disabled student when our application detects eye-movement. This paper describes how our application works, its efficiency and our future work.

Now there are lots kinds of electric consumer products or intelligent systems which are developed based on embedded technology. Under such circumstance, Japanese companies have been forced to cultivate human resources capable of implementation of embedded technology. According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industrys investigation report 2006, Japanese Industry have faced serious lack of embedded engineers, the number of lack of engineers is almost a hundred thousand. Therefore, education of embedded technology engineers is one of urgent for Japanese technical colleges for the future. To perform the mission, each college have to design their educational curriculum appropriately. This paper describes a curriculum design to develop embedded technology engineers of college in Japan. The feature of this curriculum is line-tracer oriented. Students gradually get used to embedded technology with developing line-tracers.

Abstract There have been literatures which have focused limited topics of control engineering, for example manipulating transfer function, considering stability etc. There have been also literatures to educate control engineering in the robotics. It seems to be no reports which has discussed the framework, curriculum for system control engineering education. This paper describes the design of curriculum for system control engineering of technical college in Japan. The feature of this curriculum is line-tracer oriented. The stream of this curriculum would let student graw a line-tracer to be intelligece and gives motivation of lerning control engineering to student.

This paper describes a concept and system implementation of a tele-health care support system. Traditional medical consultation is carried out face to face. The tele-health care support system should make up the physical distance between the client and clinician. The medical consultation model is proposed based on analyzing the task and information of medical consultation for creating a design methodology for a tele-health care system. The structure of the proposed medical consultation model is created by the idea of a feedback control system. The clinician takes the part of a controller and the client is regarded as a controlled system in the model. How and which parts of the model could be supported by computer and communication technology are discussed. The design and implementation of collaboration among the client, clinician and co-medical staff including family and the establishment of the communication channel are explained as one actual example based on the proposed medical consultation model.
