Necrotizing Sialometaplasia-A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NS) is a benign, self-limiting inflammatory disease of the mucus-secreting glands mainly involves in the minor salivary glands. Most of the recently reported cases have emphasized that the resemblance of the clinical and histological findings of NS to malignancy might result in misdiagnosis and inappropriate surgical therapy. We reported a 24-year-old woman with NS over left hard palate performed by an incisional biopsy. By the case, we also emphasized that an incisional biopsy must be performed and careful histopathologic examination should he done to determine the proper treatment and management regimen.
