Abstract A novel cyclic peptide containing an allenic ether of a N-(p-hydroxycinnamoyl)amide, and two aromatic allenic ethers were isolated from the endothytic fungus Xylaria sp. from the South China Sea. Their structures were determined by analysis of spectroscopic data, mainly 2D NMR experiments.

Abstract The endophytic fungus No. 1893 was isolated from the dropper of Kandelia candel from an estuarine mangrove on the South China Sea coast. The ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth of this fungus strain exhibited cytotoxicity toward NCI4460 and Bel-7402, and high activities against Heliothis armigera (Huhner) and Sinergasilus spp. Two new lactones, 1893A ( 1 ) and B ( 2 ), together with 5-(p-hydroxybenzyl)hydantoin and two cyclodipeptides, cyclo-(Ser-Leu) and cyclo-(Phe-Gly), were isolated from the extract. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic experiments, including X-ray diffraction.

Two metabolites enalin A (1) and B (2), together with hydroxymethyl furfural (3) and three cyclodipeptides (4, 5 and 6), were isolated from the mangrove fungus Verruculina enaria from a salt lake in the Bahamas. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, mainly by 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. A possible biosynthetic scheme to 1 and 2 is presented.

A novel cyclic depsipeptide, enniatin G, together with enniatins B and B4 were isolated from the mangrove fungus Halosarpheia sp.(strain 732) from the South China Sea. Their structures were determined by analysis of spectroscopic data, mainly two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance experiments. Enniatin G exhibited activity against Heps 7402, ED50 12mg/mL.

Abstract Penicillazine (1) is a new compound with both quinolone and 4H-5,6-dihydro-1,2-oxazine ring systems that was isolated from a culture of the marine fungus Penicillium sp. (strain #386). Its structure was elucidated using spectroscopic methods, primarily 2D NMR techniques, and was confirmed by an X-ray diffraction analysis. Variations in the 1H NMR spectrum of penicillazine (1) were observed over a 65°C temperature range.

A new chloro-monoterpene (compound 1) and three known compounds, peroxyergosterol, uracil and methylisocoumarin, were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth of the mangrove endophytic fungus Tryblidiopycnis sp. (4275) obtained from Kandelia woody tissue from Mai Po, Hong Kong. Its structure was determined spectroscopically and by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

A new nonadride derivative, ( − )-1-hydroxybyssochlamic acid (1) and the known ( − )-byssochlamic acid (2) were isolated from mangrove fungus (strain No. k38) collected from the South China Sea coast. The structure and relative configuration of 1 were elucidated by spectral data and X-ray diffraction analysis. Primary bioassays showed that 2 had medium cytotoxic activity against HEp-2 and HepG2 Cells, and 1 exhibited weak activity.

The title compound, C13H12Cl2O5, is an isocoumarin compound which has been isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth of actinomycete Streptomyces sp. (V4) from the South China Sea. There are intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds and halogen bonds [Cl⋯Cl = 3.434 (2) Å; C—Cl⋯Cl = 121.6°]. The intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link molecules into chains along the b axis.
