Effect of Al deoxidation on the formation behavior of inclusions in Ce-added stainless steel melts

Sun Kuk Kwon; Young-Min Kong; Joo Hyun Park

The effect of Al deoxidation on the oxygen content and the inclusion properties (composition, size and morphology) of Ce-added stainless steel melts at 1873 K was investigated. The total oxygen content was about 310(±40) ppm before Al addition and slightly decreases with holding time when Al content was lower than 0.01%, whereas the oxygen content drastically decreased when Al content was greater than about 0.05%. Al content initially decreased, followed by an increase by addition of Ce, which originates from the reduction of Al2O3 in the refractory and/or inclusions by added Ce. The initial inclusions before Al addition were mainly Mn(Cr)-silicates. When Ce was added without Al deoxidation, small amounts of Ce oxide were detected after Ce addition. However, the content of Ce oxide decreased with holding time, and the inclusion composition reverted to the MnO-SiO2-Cr2O3 system. The initial Mn(Cr)-silicate inclusions transformed to Al2O3-rich inclusions by Al addition, and then Ce2O3 was enriched by Ce addition due to local enrichment of Ce around Al2O3 particles, resulting in the formation of AlCeO3-type inclusions. However, the Ce2O3 in the inclusions was continuously reduced by Al due to higher chemical potential of Al than Ce, finally forming the Al2O3-CeAl11O18 complex inclusions.

Effect of post-deposition annealing on the structural, optical and electrical properties of IGZO films

Jae-Hyun Jeon; Tae-Kyung Gong; Young-Min Kong; Hak Min Lee; Daeil Kim

AbstractIGZO thin films were deposited on glass substrates via RF magnetron co-sputtering with In2O3 and GZO targets. The films were then vacuum annealed at 100°C, 200°C and 300°C for 30 minutes to investigate the effects of the annealing temperature on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of the films. Although XRD patterns demonstrated that all films had an amorphous phase regardless of annealing temperature, electrical resistivity decreased to as low as 3.2 × 10-4 Ω cm at an annealing temperature of 300°C. The optical transmittance in the visible wavelength region also improved from 80 to 83%. The figure of merit shows that IGZO films annealed at 300°C have the higher optical and electrical performance than other films prepared under different conditions in this study.

Energy storage properties of nano-grained antiferroelectric (Pb,La)(Zr,Ti)O 3 films prepared by aerosol-deposition method

Soo-Bin Kang; Min-Geun Choi; Dae-Yong Jeong; Young-Min Kong; Jungho Ryu

Antiferroelectric films of Sn doped Lead Lanthanum Zirconate-Titanate [(Pb, La)(Sn, Zr, Ti)O3, Sn-PLZT] with nano-grains were fabricated by aerosol-deposition (AD). The AD process produced highly dense films without visible pores. The polarization-electric field hysteresis loop and the phase transition behavior of PLZT with Sn doping into the B-sites were characterized. The grain sizes of the AD Sn-PLZT films, which were on the nano-scale, were controlled by the annealing temperature. Regardless of the compositions, the films with the nano-grains by the AD process showed less hysteretic behavior and larger stored energy. The Pb0.97La0.02(Zr0.85Sn0.13Ti0.02)O3 (PL-0.13) film deposited by AD and annealed at 750 °C for 1 h showed an energy storage capacity and efficiency of 13.0 J/cm3 and 78.9 %, respectively.

. The results of the BET analysis revealed that the specific surface area increased as the pore size decreased from 30 PPI to 40 PPI. The oxidation resistance of porous metal decreased with decreasing pore size. As the temperature increased, the oxidation weight gain of the porous metal also increased. Porous metals mainly created oxides such as
