For optimizing the technics of storing cut tobacco in cases, the traditional means of case filling by compressing was compared with filling by suction in terms of the physical index of packed cut tobacco and the smoke index and sensory quality of cigarette. The results showed that: 1) Comparing with traditional compressing means, the suction means produced lower tobacco breakage,did not affect cut tobacco structure obviously during storage, and the reduction of long strands portion was less than 0.24%. 2) With the prolongation of storage time, the moisture content changed a little in cut tobacco packed by either means, the filling power of cut tobacco decreased slightly,however, the filling power of cut tobacco packed by suction means was always higher than that by compressing means. 3) For cut tobacco packed by suction means, storage time basically did not affect smoke index, the results of sensory evaluation indicated that there was no obvious sensory quality difference between the test samples stored for 9 days and the control.

In order to meet the technology requirements for pretreatment of single grade strips during primary processing and overcome the shortcomings of traditional silo system,such as large site area,a great number of silos of variform silo types,a case storage system for single grade strips was configured via designing of case filling means,storage means,case tipping means and case structure,and incorporating real-time moisture content conversion and static balance metering.The results of application showed that: the storing capacity of the system was up to 1900 cases(120-150 kg/case),which satisfied the need of fine tobacco processing and accurate blending of various strips,and the blending precision raised by 0.29 percentage points.Coal consumption reduced by 546 tons per year,the rate of tobacco breakage decreased by 0.17 percentage points;it ensured the accuracy of tobacco blend and effectively raised the storage density per unit space of the system,and made strip storing and blending a flexible process.
