Alicia S.M. Leung; Yu Ha Cheung; Xiangyang Liu

Purpose – This study examines the relationship between domain‐based life satisfaction (LS) and subjective well‐being (SWB) as well as the role of spiritual well‐being as a moderator. Domains of LS include family cohesion, social connectedness, career success, and self‐esteem.Design/methodology/approach – A survey was completed by 145 full‐time Hong Kong Chinese employees working in a variety of jobs and organizations.Findings – Multiple regression analyses show that career success, social connectedness, and self‐esteem are associated with both psychological and physical well‐being. Spiritual well‐being moderated the relationship between career success and psychological well‐being. The relationship is stronger for low than for high spirituality.Research limitations/implications – All data were self‐reported and collected at one point in time. Thus, common method variance may be an issue and causal inferences are not warranted.Practical implications – Domain‐specific LS and spiritual well‐being appear to be...

The Current State of Protection of European Trademark Rights in China

Yu Ha Cheung; Lai Man Tang; Yin Wong

With the enlargement of the European Union (EU) and the economic expansion of China, bilateral trade between the EU Member States and China has experienced noticeable growth. With the increasing number of EU small and medium enterprises entering the Chinese market, their inexperience in trademark protection may hamper their business development in China. Despite Chinas effort to strengthen its legal framework and enforcement power for trademark protection, its record remains less than fully satisfactory in the opinion of much of the international community. In this article, we present some common forms of trademark infringement in China and discuss some of the complexities of legal and institutional conditions and linguistic factors. We also provide recommendations to tackle these issues.

This study examined the potential moderating roles of career officers institutional intention and occupational intention on the relationship between structural/content career plateaus and job involvement in Taiwanese career military officers. Empirical data were collected from 338 career officers who received full-time training at the National Defense University in Taiwan. The results showed that the perception of structural/content career plateaus were both negatively related to job involvement. Furthermore, the results found the supports of the moderating role of institutional intention in the relationship between perceived structural/content career plateaus and job involvement, and the moderating role of occupational intention in the relationship between perceived structural career plateau and job involvement. Practical management and research implications are discussed, and future research directions suggested.

Psychological safety serves as mediator between person-group fit and voice behaviour

Jen Wei Cheng; Kuo Ming Lu; Yu Ha Cheung; Jyh Huei Kuo

Voice behaviour researchers have mainly focused on examining the antecedents of voice behaviour from personality and leadership style and have provided helpful insights. In the current study, we extend the previous studies on voice behaviour from a fit perspective by explaining why and how person-group fit leads to voice behaviour and by investigating the mediating role of psychological safety. Empirical data for this research are collected from 173 subordinate-supervisor dyads from ten firms in Taiwan. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to test our hypotheses. The survey results indicate that when subordinates perceive high levels of value congruency, employees’ voice behaviour is enhanced via psychological safety. The present work provides new and deeper insights by strengthening the role of psychological safety.
